nakshatra: (Sanskrit) "Star cluster."
 
Central to astrological determinations, the nakshatras are 27 starclusters, constellations, which lie along the ecliptic, or path of the sun. An individual's nakshatra, or birth star, is the constellation the moon was aligned with at the time of birth.

The Shaktis of the Nakshatras
Each Nakshatra has its particular power or Shakti. These are also the powers of the Devatas or the deities ruling the Nakshatras. Each of these Shaktis has its effect above and its effect below, and the final result of these three factors. The imagery is of common factors of plants, healing, worship, marriage and death.

All the Iyengars trace their origin to one of the eight major rishis or sages. Nakshatra: Literally refers to a star in the zodiac. There are 27 main nakshatras encircling the entire zodiac each ruling a span of the zodiac equal to 13o20'' of arc. The Moon travels through roughly one nakshatra per day. The nakshatras are said to be the wives of the Moon. Each has a ruler planet, a ruler demigod or devata, a specific nature, and various predictions associated with it. The nakshatras are extremely important in all aspects of vedic astrology.

Fruits of Worshipping Each Nakshatra
Each Nakshatra reflects certain wishes or desires that those who born under them are inclined to have. In the Vedas each Nakshatra deity reflects these wishes, that those who worship this deity and its Nakshatra will gain. This material comes from the Taittiriya Brahmana III.1.4. It affords additional insight on the Nakshatras and their meaning. I have condensed the material to make it as relevant as possible.

Nakshatra
In Vedic astrology, a division of the Zodiac into 27 parts. There were originally 28 parts but one seems to have been dropped. Each Division is ruled by a planet and is further divided into Padas or quarters. The nakshatra contains 9 navaa. nshas and forms the base position for lunar Dasha systems
