TAMMUZ TAMMUZ Babylonian equivalent of Osiris, God of spring, whose wife, Ishtar, descended into Hades in order to bring him back to life. It was Ishtar who was compelled to remove her garments (i.e., facets of her soul), one by one, in order to enter Hades completely naked. The idea being that we may take none of our soul's crowns or accomplishments with us into death but have to meet it solely with original, untried nature. Also called "Sataran" or "Serpent Goddess," by the Sumerians (according to Riland). (See also: TAMMUZ, Magick, Mysticism, Mysticism Dictionary, Body Mind and Soul, )

ACTEON ACTEON A Hunter who chanced to see the chaste goddess, Diana, nude in her midnight bath. Diana, being also the bright light of the full Moon (as Hecate is the dark of the moon) and its nearly hallucinative brilliance, he was immediately struck by anamnesis and "remembered" the naked omnipotence of pantheistic divinity in all creatures, including himself - so that, in this amazing illumination, he literally became one with everything, including the stag he had been chasing, whereupon his own dogs (not being in on the revelation) tore him apart. 'AD Mythical giants of Arabian pre-Islamic history. (See also: ACTEON, Magick, Mysticism, Mysticism Dictionary, Body Mind and Soul, )

Sylph Sylph The nature sprites or elemental beings inhabiting the element air, defined by Paracelsus for instance as holding a place between immaterial and material beings. "In space there are millions of beings, not literally spiritual, for they have all, like the animalculae [animacula] unseen by the naked eye, certain forms of matter, though matter so delicate, air-drawn, and subtile, that it is, as it were, but a film, a gossamer, that clothes the spirit. . . . Yet, in truth, these races differ most widely . . . some of surpassing wisdom, some of horrible malignity; some hostile as fiends to men, others gentle as messengers between earth and heaven" (Bulwer-Lytton, Zanoni; italics Blavatsky's). Of the four classes of elementals, the sylphs are the most dangerous because of their affinity to mankind in his present evolutionary stage. | | | | | Naked Dictionary: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Falling Dream Falling : Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Falling Dream Falling Dream Q: I often dream that I am falling. I’ve heard this type of dream reflects feelings of insecurity — and I certainly have those, since I’m worried my partner will leave me. To gain more insight from my dreams, what should I look for? A: You’re correct in thinking that dreams of falling reflect feelings of insecurity. Such dreams might be prompted by a sense of failure or impending failure in a love relationship. Dreams, of course, have a logic all their own, and can be quite disturbing. But they reflect our wishes and conflicts, and can be a tremendous source of information.Being naked. Clothes conceal. Without them, you’re exposed. So this dream symbolizes feelings of shame or vulnerability. Whether or not you are hiding something, you might be feeling that people can see through you. Or you might fear showing your true feelings in a relationship. Dictionary - Clothing Clothing 1. Dreaming of wearing clothes that are totally inappropriate—such as wearing a bathing suit on the ski slopes—indicates circumstances in your life that require a reality check before you can move ahead. If in the dream you change your clothes, you’ll be successful. 2. A dream of being naked in public is a very common type of dream, and usually means that the dreamer feels exposed, vulnerable and at the mercy of others. 3. Dictionary - Penis Penis: 1. Dreaming of a huge, erect, and disembodied penis is an ancient religious symbol for the Creator, like the Shiva lingam of Hinduism - and thus represents creative power, particularly male creative power. 2. Viewing a naked man whom you actually know in waking life hints that someone you know is going to reveal all to you - perhaps more than you want to hear. 3. If you're a woman dreaming of making love to a man, there is a guy out there who would like very much to get closer to you. 4. If you are a straight man dreaming of being in bed with another man, this doesn't necessarily mean that you're changing your sexual preference, but it does mean that you could very soon find yourself doing something that you're not normally inclined to do. SIRIUS SIRIUS (See SOTHIS.) In recent times reputable French anthropologists who visited the Dogon people of Mali, living in the furthest reaches of Africa, discovered that their mythology revealed an astonishing astronomical knowledge of the star system Sirius. This knowledge could not have evolved from merely studying the star by the naked eye. Only a strong, modern telescope could possibly have told them that Sirius is really two stars, that it has a companion, Sirius B, which is invisible from the earth without a telescope. Nor should they have known that this invisible star has an elliptical orbit, that it is heavier and yet much smaller and so on. The Dogons claim they were told such secret things by Sirian explorers who visited the earth in millennia past. It now appears that missionaries may have confused the issue by teaching them our astronomy at an earlier time. The connection of the names "Dogon" and the "Dog Star" is based on a peculiarity of language. For the French who made these discoveries, English is a mystery and the similarity of Dogon/dog is an illuminating revelation -- for the word "dog" is, of course, non-existent in French, which uses chien. For us, however, the connection is difficult to see as anything more than a simple-minded and childish pun. In Egyptian history, the rising of Sirius, the Dog star, at dawn marked the beginning of the year. Sirius (called Sothis) was considered to be "the sun beyond the Sun." Sarcophagus Sarcophagus (Ancient Greek). A stone tomb, a receptacle for the dead; sarc = flesh, and phagein = to eat. Lapis assius, the stone of which the sarcophagi were made, is found in Lycia, and has the property of consuming the bodies in a very few weeks. In Egypt sarcophagi were made of various other stones, of black basalt, red granite, alabaster and other materials, as they served only as outward receptacles for the wooden coffins containing the mummies. The epitaphs on some of them are as remarkable as they are highly ethical, and no Christian could wish for anything better. One epitaph, dating thousands of years before the year one of our modern era, reads: - " I have given water to him who was thirsty, and clothing to him who was naked. I have done harm to no man." Another: "I have done actions desired by men and those which are commanded by the gods". The beauty of some of these tombs may be judged by the alabaster sarcophagus of Oimenephthah I., at Sir John Soane’s Museum, Lincoln’s Inn. "It was cut out of a single block of fine alabaster stone, and is 9 ft. 4 in.. long, by 22 to 24 in. in width, and 27 to 32 in. in height. . . . Engraved dots, etc., outside were once filled with blue copper to represent the heavens. To attempt a description of the wonderful figures inside and out is beyond the scope of this work. Much of our knowledge of the mythology of the people is derived from this precious monument, with its hundreds of figures to illustrate the last judgment, and the life beyond the grave. Gods, men, serpents, symbolical animals and plants are there most beautifully carved." (Funeral Rites of the Egyptians.)
