 | | | Mysticism - Types of mystical experience: Encyclopedia II - Mysticism - Self-transcending self-discoveryThe term Perennial Philosophy, coined by Leibniz and popularized by Aldous Huxley, relates to what some take to be the mystic's primary concern:

 | | | Mysticism - Types of mystical experience: Inner CertaintyIn the ultimate analysis, the healthiest form of certainty arises from a sense of being grounded, deeply rooted in the spiritual, where we have a solid connection with our inner source. With that connection, we may still be thrown off by accidents, mistakes and mishaps in life. But like a good compass, when bumped, we always return to true north in our orientation. The pull of the "north" is strong to us; it is a shaping force in our lives. Read more here: » Body Mind and Spirit: Inner Certainty |

 | | | Mysticism - Types of mystical experience: Finding Answers In The Mystic's Lab Since the beginning, human beings have sought answers to spiritual questions, motivated by a basic urge to understand the meaning of life. Our search for answers has led us to believe in a divine being. This belief in divine power dominated world thought until about 500 years ago when scientific discoveries and innovations began to shake our faith in God. But science also proved to be a false god, leaving many in despair, (See also: Science and Religion, Faith and Belief, Spiritual Guidance, God and Religion, Peace on Earth, Peace of Mind, Love and Happiness, Life and Beyond, Body Mind and Soul)

 | | | Mysticism - Types of mystical experience: The Eternal Query - Just Who Are We? Erwin Schrodinger, father of quantum-wave mechanics declared that the one and only task of science is to answer the one philosophical question: 'Who are we?' In the Kathopanishad, Nachiketa requests Jamaraja: "Please give me knowledge of the Self." Whether extrovert or introvert, for those who go deep into their respective fields of knowledge, a single, universal enigma incessantly and insistently surfaces at the very core: What is the nature of the observer of the field? And, for many scientists and intellectuals, the answer has remained elusive. In The Astonishing Hypothesis - The Scientific Search for the Soul, Nobel laureate Francis Crick admits in the very opening sentence, "The mystery of consciousness... at the present time... is far too difficult to explain." | | | Mysticism - Types of mystical experience: Amarnath Journey Prompts Reflection We tend to pray to God only for our worldly needs, which are much more than our requirements. Krishna says in the Gita, "Four types of devotees worship me: the distressed ones, those seeking knowledge, those seeking wealth and others seeking wisdom. Of all such devotees, the one who seeks wisdom is dearest to me". Shrishti or creation means projection and expansion coming out of One. That is the evolution of the world. Krishna also says that at the end of a Kalpa, the whole universe - all the souls, whether in the state of birth and death or in moksha, including Brahma - will dissolve within Me. | | | Mysticism - Types of mystical experience: Creative Mystery of A Prepared Mind Newton wasn't the only person in the world on whose head an apple fell. Yet, it was Newton who immediately grasped the meaning of gravity after this experience. When Einstein heard that a painter had fallen from the roof, he asked the painter how he felt while falling down. The painter's reply that he felt weightless propelled Einstein into formulating his General Theory of Relativity. Both Newton and Einstein and countless other discoverers of truth produced great ideas from every day observations because their minds were in a state of preparedness.
