Mysticism | A resource on Mysticism | | Mysticism Mysticism is usually defined in dictionaries and encyclopedias as a spiritual discipline used to make contact with the divine. While this definition is frequently correct, there have been many people who have had mystical experiences without following a special discipline. Conversely, many people have followed a set of spiritual practices carefully and for a prolonged period but have never contacted the divine.
The mystical event is a personal experience during which one feels as though one has been touched by some higher or greater truth or power. This may occur inside or outside of a religious setting, within or outside a religious tradition.
"The most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical."

| ARTICLES RELATED TO Mysticism | | | | Mysticism: Find God in everything
We sometimes fear rejection when we express our needs to others. However, we have the promise from God that, when we ask, our needs will be heard. We will not be rejected. Everyone who asks, receives. Whoever searches finds, and those who knock have the door opened to them. We are often fearful that our prayers will not be heard or that they will not be answered in the ways we hope.

| | | | Mysticism: Cardinal Principles
Only direct Knowledge can be the cause for Liberation. Action by itself cannot destroy our illusions and delusions. It is because of our ignorance that we appear to be finite. When ignorance is destroyed by Knowledge, the Self reveals Itself by itself, like the sun when the clouds are removed.

| | | | Mysticism: Principles Of 'Self'
Through discrimination, the seeker has to isolate the pure innermost Self from the mental coverings. The Self is only reflected in the clear mind. The Self, as pure Awareness, has to be seen as being distinct from body and mind.

| | | | Mysticism: Some Esoteric Principles
Esoteric tenets of the established religions clearly state, among other things that "God is everywhere." If we are to believe this statement, we then have to say, "Then God must also somehow be within that which is evil, including the Devil himself!" Well, without going too far into the esoteric nature of the matter, I will simply say that what appears to be evil, is just that, an appearance.

| | | | Mysticism: Attachment and Non-Attachment
In the West, there is a widespread fear of losing the ego or personality. Through meditation we find that we can expand the ego, not lose it. We must become large-hearted. We must take in more and more of our fellow beings and the rest of the world rather than identify with the individual, isolated self. We must think of ourselves as travellers temporarily passing through life in this world. We must realise that we are only using this body, these experiences, these material objects temporarily on loan. They are not ours. We are borrowing them. Sooner or later we will leave them behind. There is nothing to fear; our purpose is not to possess these things but to use them in order to transcend them. This is the truth, which goes beyond the law. We must learn that our actions are not our personal possessions. We need not be attached to them.

| | | | Mysticism: How to have a dialogue with God
Prayer is a conversation or dialogue with God and the art of prayer is knowing how to speak to and listen to God. If communication is to deepen the relationship of faith, the matter of this conversation cannot be superficial small talk or even mind talk. It must involve a total sharing or encounter of persons. To understand prayer as communication in an interpersonal relationship, it will be helpful for us to notice how human beings come to know and love each other through communication.

| | | | Mysticism: Opportunities for transformation
Did you ever see something go wrong around you and suddenly burst out, How on Earth did I create that? Really, how can bad things happen, even to the sweetest, kindest, most spiritual people on the planet? Where's the fairness in that? The root of the question lies partly in the fact that we live in a state of polarity consciousness. This is a point of view where life is seen as a contrast between opposing forces, and that events are either good or bad. Good or bad is a judgment issue. Judgment belongs within the frequency band of basic, physical consciousness. Yes, in physical consciousness, bad things do exist, and they appear that way because they're designed to.

| | | | Mysticism: Zero To Infinity In Indian Mysticism
Ananta is Sanskrit for infinity. It is equated with the Supreme Brahman - infinitely powerful and so infinitely free. It is bigger than any quantity that can be imagined; it is bigger than any finite number. Infinity is one of the fundamental axioms upon which contemporary mathematics is based. Sanskrit grammar and interpretation in ancient India were closely linked to the handling of high value numbers. Studies relating to poetry and metrics initiated sastragnaas or scientists to both arithmetic and grammar. Grammarians were just as competent at calculations as professional mathematicians. Indian sastragnaas or scientists, philosophers, astronomers and cosmographers - in order to develop their arithmetical, metaphysical and cosmological speculations concerning ever higher numbers - became at once mathematicians, grammarians and poets.
