Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson originally got his name from a famous stick-up artist of the 1980s. The Original 50 Cent was named Kelvin Martin. He was considered small for a notorious thug; he only measured 5 foot 3. Martin worked with the notorious supreme team, and he was aligned with Eric B. and Rakim. He stuck up and killed many people including former friends of his and a few high ranked drug lords. Additionally, he stuck up the rap group Whodini. His sheistiness and love of money eventually resulted in his murder. The family of Kelvin Martin ...

 | | | M.O.P.: Encyclopedia II - East Coast hip hop - Old school hip hop 1970–1986
East Coast hip hop - 1970s.
For more details on this topic, see Roots of hip hop.
Hip hop music emerged from block parties thrown by owners of loud and expensive stereo equipment, which they could share with the community or use to compete among ultra-competitive West Indian DJs who began isolating the percussion break from funk or disco songs. Block Parties were famously referenced in the song South Bronx by KRS-One with the line: Power from a street light made the place dark ...

G-Unit - The feud with The Game.
Their next acquisition was The Game, a Compton rapper backed by Dr. Dre. After releasing his debut album, which sold multiplatinum as the most successful G-Unit album since GRoDT, 50 Cent and G-Unit publicly ousted the rapper from their clique on many radio stations, notably the controversial Hot 97. 50 Cent claimed that The Game didn't follow the tradition of "beefing" (feuding) with Ja Rule and Murder Inc; he also refused to participate in the feud with 50 Cen ...

 | | | M.O.P.: Encyclopedia II - East Coast hip hop - Regional differenceThe stand-out point of east coast hip hop from other regional forms (in general) is the intricate and multi-threaded lyrics and delivery of this sub-genre. East coast artists tend to be more complex, witty, and versatile (depending on the artist). Critically-acclaimed East Coast artists such as Mos Def, Talib Kweli Kanye West, and Nas have a wide margin of subject matter thus appealing to a wider audience, particularly when they address social issues in their communities. Alternative styles usually develop in this region with groups such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, and De La Soul, and Common; who blend j ...

 | | | M.O.P.: Encyclopedia II - G-Unit - Recent Acquisitions50 Cent has proven adept at luring both established as well as up-and-coming artists to G-Unit. His post-Game signees include:
M.O.P., who left Roc-a-Fella Records at the time of the label's split and signed up with G-Unit.
Mase, renouncing his pastorhood, signed a joint venture between G-Unit and Bad Boy, reverting to his old "Murda Mase" persona, including violent and mysogynistic lyrics.
Spider Loc, another West Coast rapper, and Crip gang member who is head of G-Unit West.
Olivia, the first female ...

 | | | M.O.P.: Encyclopedia II - 50 Cent - Early historyOriginally from Southside Jamaica, Queens, 50 Cent is currently one of the most well-known and commercially successful rappers of the decade. Because the success of an artist in gangsta rap often depends on street credibility and reputation, Interscope Records has sold 50 Cent as the "real deal". His mother was murdered in a drug deal. He has been shot three times (commonly mistaken as nine times, because nine bullets were fired at him), stabbed, and he built a large rap empire in New York City ...
