| | | | Moonstone: Encyclopedia II - Ford Sierra - XR4i and other sporting modelsIn 1983, the high-performance XR4i version was introduced. It utilised a tuned version (150 hp DIN) of the 2.8 L Cologne engine also used in the 'Ford Capri 2.8 Injection' of that era and sported a restyled version of the 3-door Sierra bodyshell. The double rear spoiler and curious multi-pillared rear windows were considered over-styled by some prospective buyers, and the car never achieved the cult status of the smaller Fiesta XR2 and Escort XR3i. A version of the XR4i with a 2.3 L turbocharged engine was sold in the United States as the Me ...

| | | | Moonstone: Encyclopedia II - The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension - PlotThe plot of Buckaroo Banzai is quite complex, often requiring multiple viewings before it can be fully understood. This is partly due to the fact that it spans roughly 50 years, begins in medias res, and doesn't fill in some of the earliest parts of the story until the viewpoint characters themselves unravel the mystery — roughly half-way through the movie. In its essentials, the plot concerns the efforts of the multi-talented Buckaroo Banzai (whose careers include physicist, neurosurgeon, martial artist, rock musician and com ...

| | | | Moonstone: Encyclopedia II - William Murdoch - BirminghamIn 1777, at the age of 23, he walked to Birmingham, a distance of over 300 miles, in order to ask for a job with James Watt, the famous steam engine manufacturer. It is likely that he both Watt and Murdoch were already aware of each other due to their connections with James Boswell who had made several visits to Watt's workshop at Soho. Watt's partner Matthew Boulton was so impressed by Murdoch's wooden hat, made on a lathe of his own design that he gave him a job. Watt began his career with Bolton and Watt in the pattern shop of their Soho Foundry making patterns for the casting of machine parts. He pr ...

| | | | Moonstone: Encyclopedia II - William Murdoch - Chemistry DiscoveriesIn addition to his mechanical work Murdoch also experimented in the field of chemistry and made a number of discoveries. One such was the discovery, first recorded in 1784, of iron cement made from sal ammoniac, or ammonium chloride and iron filings, apparently discovered when Murdoch observed that these 2 components had accidentally mixed in his tool bag and formed a solid mass. This iron cement was used to fix and harden the joints of steam engines, thus creating a hard durable seal.
Another discovery, and ...

| | | | Moonstone: Encyclopedia II - Humboldt County California - HistoryHumboldt County was formed in 1853 from parts of Trinity County.
The county derived its name from Humboldt Bay, which was entered by a sea otter hunting party in 1806, but was not rediscovered until 1849. In 1850, Douglas Ottinger and Hans Buhne entered the bay, naming it Humboldt in honor of the great naturalist and world explorer, Baron Alexander von Humboldt.
The area around Humboldt Bay was once solely inhabited by the Wiyot Indian tribe. One of the largest Wiyot villages, Tolowot, was located on Gunther Island (AKA Indian ...

Birthday - Festive.
In most English-speaking countries it is traditional to sing the song Happy Birthday to You to the honored person celebrating their birthday. The birthday cake is traditionally a highly decorated cake, and is typically covered with lit candles when presented; the number of candl ...

| | | | Moonstone: Encyclopedia II - Detective fiction - Police proceduralMany detective stories have police officers as the main characters. Of course these stories may take many forms, but many authors try to go for a realistic depiction of a police officer's routine. A good deal are whodunits; in others the criminal is well known, and it is a case of getting enough evidence.
Some typical features of these are:
The detective is rarely the first on the crime scene - it will be milling with uniform, paramedics and possibly members of the public.
