ARTICLES RELATED TO Misery | | | | Misery: Encyclopedia II - Inflation - The role of inflation in the economyOne effect of small steady inflation is that it is difficult to renegotiate some prices, and particularly wages and contracts, downwards, so that with generally increasing prices it is easier for relative prices to adjust. Many prices are "sticky downward" and tend to creep upward, so that efforts to attain a zero inflation rate (a constant price level) punish other sectors with falling prices, profits, and employment. Thus, some business executives see mild inflation as "greasing the wheels of commerce". Efforts to attain complete price sta ...

 | | | Misery: Encyclopedia II - Inflation - Measuring inflation
Inflation is measured by observing the change in the price of a large number of goods and services in an economy (usually based on data collected by government agencies, though labor unions and business magazines have also done this job). The prices of goods and services are combined to give a price index measuring an average price level, the average price of a set of products. This price is then adjusted for changes in the underlying basket of goods, a process called hedonic adjustment. For example, if the base model of a car ...

 | | | Misery: Encyclopedia II - Inflation - Causes of inflationThere are different schools of thought as to what causes inflation. The two most prevalent theories are the neo-classical theory that inflation is driven by increases in the money supply, often used to finance government spending and the neo-Keynesian view that inflation is the result of diminishing returns of productivity.
Inflation - Monetary Theory.
One of the most widespread theories of inflation is also the most straightforward: inflation is an increase in the supply of money at a rate greater than th ...

 | | | Misery: Clash of the Titans: Faith vs Reason “All religions are ancient monuments to superstition, ignorance and ferocity,” said the French materialist phi-losopher Baron d’Holbach. Religion has been described as the root of human misery and conflict - that more people have been killed in the name of God than in any other cause. Religion has never been the root of man’s miseries. The problem with man has been man. Religion is but an instrument; man its wielder. Like any instrument or organisation, religion can be misused. But, with religion there exists an agonising and eternal irony: it is the only path to transform the materialists who abuse it. | | | Misery: Are There Cosmic Causes and Cures for All Evils? How did evilness enter the world? According to the author SC Varma, at the start or genesis of universe, there was only one almighty God, the brahman , the cosmic soul (parmatma). After many yugs (eras) of being alone and blissful, he thought of becoming many from one and said: eko hum, bahu syami (in sanskrit it means, I am one, let me be many). And with this concept (sankalp) alone, the ball of duality and multiplicity of creation started rolling, and still is rolling on. This article gives an exciting background from the vedic viewpoint on how pain, misery, conflicts and problems originated. | | | Misery: As You Sow, So You ReapWhatever you sow by your actions come back to you. If you make others happy through service, charity and kind acts, you sow happiness like a seed; and it will give you the fruit of happiness. If you make others unhappy through harsh words, insult, ill-treatment, cruel acts, oppression, etc., you sow unhappiness like a seed; and it will give you the fruit of pain, suffering, misery and unhappiness. This is the immutable Law of Karma. Excerpt from All About Hinduism by Sri Swami Sivananda Read more here: » Karma: As You Sow, So You Reap |

 | | | Misery: Satsangs, Gurus, Faith and Truth All followers of a guru, regardless of age , are like his children. He gives them shelter from misery and imparts to them the knowledge of self-realisation without expecting anything in return. In a satsang the guru teaches meditation and other methods for realising the God who resides within. How does one find a guru? An ancient saying says that when the disciple is prepared, the guru appears. A genuine spiritual guru seeks out good students. If he finds that the student is not yet ready, he will gradually prepare him for higher teachings. And when the wick and oil are properly prepared, the guru lights the lamp. | | | Misery: Spiritual Technique For Mind Repair - Vipassana Vipassana is a self-observation technique taught by Gautama the Buddha. "Its origins were already lost in timeless antiquity", he had said. He rediscovered it in his prolonged search for a fundamental antidote to human misery. The Sakya crown prince who had already mastered every prevalent teaching in India of those times, realised that nothing, including systems of the famous Alara and Ramputta, touched deep-rooted impurities entrenched in his mind. Observing bodily sensations, he realised, led to hidden depths of the mind where our habit patterns are formed and multiplied. | | | Misery: The Kindly Stranger To Your Rescue I believe in kindness. Well, you may retort, who doesn't? But I believe in it rather as religious people believe in God. I think it is the answer to almost all our problems: from the miseries of divorce to nuclear proliferation. If humanity learnt to gauge its every action by the simple criterion of kindness - always to ask if it is, on balance, the kindest thing to do? - the world would be much happier... kindness offers us an uncomplicated morality, liberated from every species of mumbo- jumbo, the spells of witch doctors or the theology of professors. | | | Misery: Pilgrimage of Faith - Chishti's Shrine Pilgrims are flocking to the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer on the occasion of the annual Urs. Popularly known as Khwaja Gharib Nawaz, the dargah symbolises a touching synthesis of the hopes and prayers of various faiths and communities. Both Hindus and Muslims remember Moinuddin Chishti as Khwaja Gharib Nawaz, revering him for his simple teachings and eclectic philosophy. The Khwaja believed that no spiritual exercise, penitence, prayer, or vigil had greater value than bringing succour to distressed hearts and helping the needy. He directed all his efforts towards alleviation of human misery.
