Mindfulness Meditation: Why are we moved to do what we do? Ð Part I

Why are we moved to do what we do? For what purposes do we act? Certainly the answers to these questions are diverse and complex. I am going to outline seven major aspects or "levels" of motivation. These seven are related to the psychic chakras of Hindu occultism.

Mindfulness Meditation: Techniques In Meditation

The world over, many have confused meditation with concentration and relaxation with meditation. Techniques using music, dance, other forms of creative expression, an array of therapies (both physical and mental), have all been synchronised into one basket - Meditation!

But truly speaking, many of these work more at the intellectual level while others are only channels for relaxation and prepare you for the more serious stages of true meditation. From the point of view of the advanced Yogis, meditation really is a scientific technique for communion with God, and is the seventh step (dhyanai) in Patanjali's eightfold path. To a host of new age and other spiritualists, however, techniques that encourage you to manifest mindfulness and be aware also fall under the gamut of meditation.

Mindfulness Meditation: The Process of Meditation

We begin the process of Meditation as propogated by Swami Vishvas Ji.

Meditation is the natural, simplest and original form of meditation, very secular in nature. It is the most easy form, beyond all self efforts- a direct approach to the mind. We all have been blessed with the third eye or the Shiv Netra to look within directly. On closing the outer eyes, 80 percent of your energy is accumulated within, your awareness turns inwards and the inner eye starts looking within, automatically.

Mindfulness Meditation: Kundalini Signs and Symptoms

Many individuals whose Kundalini has been unexpectedly unleashed DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING, and the prevailing social ignorance about this multidimensional transformative process makes it hard to find medical or alternative health practitioners or spiritual advisors who recognize the symptoms, particularly when they are strongly physical. Many people know that the risen Kundalini flings open gates to all sorts of mystical, paranormal and magical vistas, but few realize it can also dramatically impact the body.

Mindfulness Meditation: Sound sleep through meditation

You can meditate at bedtime lying down, making it more comfortable than sitting meditation, especially for those who are not in the best physical shape. Simply close your eyes and watch your mind. If thoughts arise, let them go. Don't let them engage you. Don't judge them. Don't identify with them. Just be a non doer and watch your mind.

Mindfulness Meditation: Does meditation have any ethical implications?

Does meditation have any ethical implications?

In many traditions meditation practice is a means for reinforcing ethical qualities. In these traditions, calmness of mind, peacefulness and happiness are possible in meditation and in life generally only if they are accompanied by the observance of ethical norms of behaviour.

Mindfulness Meditation: Experiencing The Gap Between Two Breaths

This method is from The Book of Secrets , Osho's talks on Vigyan Bhairav Tantra .

This technique is about using breath to calm the mind and for centering the energy. By practicing it regularly, you can find gaps between incoming and outgoing breaths which is the door to witnessing.

Mindfulness Meditation: The Subject is Love - about the lower chakras

Chakras: The Subject is Love

How does love, springing from a divine source, become misguided in so many ways? How did we fall into such animalistic forms of love? Some understanding of our subtle anatomy is necessary at this point. We are all engaged in five types of work in our life, corresponding to our five lowest centers (chakras): maintaining our physical survival (first chakra - money), ensuring the continuation of the human race (second chakra - sex), providing fuel for the physical vehicle (third chakra - food), developing our emotional life (fourth chakra - heart), acquiring a set of philosophical and religious principles to guide our life (fifth chakra - throat). These 5 lower chakras constitute the kingdom of delusion, illusion and error.

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia - Dharana

Dharana is the sixth of the eight steps of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga. Dharana can be translated as "holding steady", and it is the initial step of deep meditation, where the object being meditated upon is held in the mind without consciousness wavering from it. The difference between Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi is that in the former, the object of meditation, the meditator, and the act of meditation itself remain separate. That is, the meditator is conscious that he or she is meditating (that is, is conscious of the act ...

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia II - Sant Thakar Singh - Controversies

Sant Thakar Singh - Childhood Meditation. In the mid-1980's Sant Thakar Singh issued a number of circular letters on family life and child rearing. These circulars are unfortunately quite hard to find as they were never formally collected into a book. They were not popular, nor were they followed to any great extent even by near devotees; and 20 years have passed. However, the substance of the circulars (w ...

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia II - Sant Thakar Singh - Biography

The documentation on Sant Thakar Singh's life is mainly limited to the few details he communicated about himself during his talks and public appearances. A biography composed of stories about the Master was collected by Wendy Heid in 1994, and it touches the central points from the perspective of the inner, spiritual aspirations. It has few points of contact with concrete people, places, or times. Sant Thakar Singh corrected and edited this work, however, and it was subsequently reprinted in 2000 and again in 2005, so the facts presented are ...

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia II - Sant Thakar Singh - Teachings

Unlike the personal life of the Master, about which very little has been documented, the teachings of Sant Thakar Singh are an open book. Indeed, the documentation of the Master's teachings is both extensive and multi-media in character. We have books, circular letters, video, and audio tapes spanning almost 30 years. Sant Thakar Singh - The Basic Proposition of Spirituality: We Are Souls Not Bodies. If we are to eat, we are to eat for God. If we are to have a body, it is only for finding God. If we ...

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia II - Meditation - Types of meditation

According to Bogart (1991) and Perez-De-Albeniz & Holmes (2000) the different techniques of meditation can be classified according to their focus. That is, whether they focus on the field or background perception and experience, also called mindfulness, or whether they focus on a preselected specific object, also called "'concentrative' meditation." There are also techniques that shift between the field and the object. Categorizing the varieties of meditation is difficult. One common way is according to religion or lineage. Of cou ...

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia II - Meditation - Meditation in context

Most traditions address the integration of mind, body, and spirit (this is a major theme of the Bhagavad-Gita); or that of spiritual practice with family life, work, and so on. Often, meditation is said to be incomplete if it doesn't lead to positive changes in one's daily life and attitudes. In that spirit some Zen practitioners have promoted "Zen driving," aimed at reducing road rage. Meditation is often presented not as a "free-standing" activity, but as one part of a wider spiritual tradition. Nevertheless, many meditators today d ...

Mindfulness Meditation: Encyclopedia II - Meditation - Meditation in context

While meditation focuses on mental or psycho-spiritual activity, this is of course only one of several spheres of human existence; and we are social beings as well as individuals.
