Mind & Spirit: The Rite Of Purification

Driving down the road recently I felt a tug on my heart, it was familar but I couldn't identify it. The pull was so strong that I pulled the car over to the side of the road. I felt the prescence of an energy so pure and compassionate that I called out for an identification. I wanted so much to understand what I was experiencing. The energy had a powerful male quality yet I knew it was feminine in nature. I called her mother.

Mind & Spirit: The Void

Chakra - Chakras: The Void

Surrounding the second and the third chakra is the Void which stands for the principle of mastery (guru principle) within us. In many spiritual traditions, this area is the "ocean of illusions" that needs to be crossed with the help of a spiritual guide. When the Kundalini is awakened and passes through the Void, this principle of mastery is established within us.

Mind & Spirit: On Ownership

In today's modern, consumer driven society, we are encouraged and persuaded constantly to 'want' and to 'own' things. We want more and more and more. In fact the word 'ownership' has practically become synonymous with material possession. The utter irony is that the things which we try to own are the vary things which it is not possible for us to own at all. As far as material possessions are concerned, we are merely custodians, guardians of whatever passes into our sphere of control. This guardianship is temporal and temporary. Our duty is to care for it, look after it as best we can whilst we have the responsibility for it.

Mind & Spirit: Revenge is not the Solution - Following the New York WTC terrorist attacks on 11 September 2002

Be assured that before things get better (and they will) they will get much worse. What happened recently in USA is only the beginning. The snowball is now rolling down the hill. It will gather speed and mass and grow much larger before it eventually hits the bottom and stops. At that time, people all over the world will lay down their arms as they lose the will to kill. They will have had enough and will finally, inevitably open their eyes, minds and most importantly their hearts, to a better way.

Mind & Spirit: The Seven Chakras

The Seven Chakras

Apart from the physical body a human being consists of a spiritual body, and this spiritual body is composed of vibrations of light which are structured in a way so that they create different centres. These centres are each structured in a beautiful pattern, and they are located as follows:

Mind & Spirit: The Root Or Base Chakra

The Root Or Base Chakra

The root chakra, or the centre at the end of the spine by the loins, is the centre which radiates a white, divine light, when seen from the highest spiritual level. This centre is the centre for the material life, it is the centre that roots the subtle divine consciousness in the material life. Mind & Spirit: Facing Change With True Equanimity

All religions and schools of thought have held equanimity to be a great virtue, to be cultivated as a prerequisite to attaining the status of a jivanmukta or realised soul.

The sage-king Bhartrihari defined the man of equanimity: - Let those who are worldly-wise praise or condemn, let riches come or go as they please, let death mow one down now itself, or let it come centuries later Ñ the man of equanimity is not deterred from his determined and steadfast march on the path of righteousnessÓ.

Mind & Spirit: Take a Deep Breath

Deep breathing reduces stress, deepens insight, expands consciousness and increases intuitive perception. Men of wisdom fetch their breath up from deep inside and below, while others breathe with their voice box alone. Great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln and Nelson Mandela often relied on mind-cleansing meditation combined with deep breathing Ñ to restore their flagging energy and create inner peace whenever stress built up in their lives.

Considering our breathing becomes more and more shallow and ineffective from birth onwards, this is a matter of utmost concern.

Too many choices sometimes create conflicts and problems, and lead to unhappiness. Recent scientific and sociological studies done on a large number of subjects show that there seems to be a direct correlation between unhappiness and the number of choices available.

Mind & Spirit: Surya, The Eternal Healer

The Hindu scriptures present the Sun as the most potent god. There are only five Puranic gods and the Sun is one of them but the images of the remaining four gods Ñ Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesh and Durga Ñ are also found in Him. In Surya Sahastranam several synonyms of the Sun are actually Vishnus names and at one place He is also called Jyotirlinga, representing Shiva. Mahakal is both the name of Shiva and the Sun.

Mind & Spirit: Over-Dependence Makes Life Spiritless

Over-dependence makes us feel directionless. Let us remind ourselves that over-dependence is a ÒcontrolÓ issue and itÕs time we discouraged exaggerations from making lifeÕs over-dependence addictive and insurmountable.
