Messiah - Josephus's report of civil unrest in the first century. It had been thought that Josephus asserts that Jesus was indeed the true messiah. No original version of Josephus' writing exists, however, comparisons of various translations have led textual analysts to conclude that this and other statements were later interpolations inserted into the text centuries after the fact and were not written by Josephus himself. However, also from Josephus it appears that in the first century before the destruct ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Beware The Messiah Complex

Psychic Reading

One hazard and lesson of this business I learned the hard way when I first got into it, is what I have come to call the MESSIAH COMPLEX. I almost fell into it myself, and it was a rough lesson to learn. Over the years, I have learned that many other people connected to this business also suffer from it in one form or another, and it can sometimes become quite detrimental, not only in the professional field, but also in your personal life.

An excerpt from Expanding the Psychic You by Keith Atkinson.

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Encyclopedia - Eschatology

Eschatology (from the Greek έσχατος meaning "last" + -logy) is a part of theology concerned with the final events in the history of the world or the ultimate destiny of human kind, commonly phrased as the end of the world. In many religions, the end of the world is a future event prophesied in sacred texts or folklore. More broadly, eschatology may encompass related concepts such as the Messiah or Messianic Age, the afterlife, and the soul. The Greek word αιών means "age"; some translation ...

Yuz Asaf or Yus Asaph is believed, by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Movement and others, to be the name adopted by Jesus after he supposedly survived the crucifixion and subsequently migrated to Kashmir. Yuz Asaf was revered as a prophet and a holy (but mortal) man. These beliefs are discussed in the book Jesus in India, written by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (the founder of the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam, who claims to be the Promised Messiah for both Muslims and Christians). Drawing on some Kashmiri oral traditions, as well as the Qur'an, ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Encyclopedia - The Sikh Gurus

Sikhism was established by ten Gurus, teachers or masters, over the period 1469 to 1708. These teachers, believed to be sent from God for the troubled people of the land, were enlightened souls whose main purpose in life was the spiritual and moral well-being of the masses, or the equivalent of Prophets & Messiahs of the other major respective monotheist religions. Each master added to and reinforced the message taught by the previous, resulting to the creation of the religion of Sikhism. Guru Nanak was the first Guru and Guru Gobind Singh the final Guru in human form. When Guru Gobind Singh left this world, he made th ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Encyclopedia - Historicity of Jesus

The historicity of Jesus (i.e., his existence as an actual historical figure), is accepted by three major world religions, Christianity, Islam, and the Bahá'í Faith based on their respective scriptures, the Bible, the Qur'an and the Kitáb-i-Íqán. However, while Christianity and the Bahá'í Faith consider Jesus to be the Christ (Messiah) and Son of God, and Islam views him as a prophet, secular historians and followers of most other world religions (including Judaism) tend to regard him as an ordinary human, and a few dispute whe ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Encyclopedia - Christmas

Christmas (literally, the Mass of Christ) is a traditional holiday observed in much of the world on 25 December, or on 7 January in most Eastern Orthodox Churches. It is celebrated by most Christians to mark the birth of Jesus, which is believed to have occurred in Bethlehem in the Roman Province of Judea between 6 BC and AD 6. Christ's birth, or nativity, was said by his followers to fulfill the prophecies of Judaism that a messiah would come, from the house of David, to redeem the world from sin. Interestingly, early Christians plac ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Encyclopedia - Resurrection of Jesus

According to the New Testament, especially the Gospels, Jesus, also called Christ, had the power to lay his life down and to take it up again, being both human and God as well as the Promised Messiah. Thus after the Crucifixion, Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day. This event is referred to in Christian terminology as the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is commemorated and celebrated by most Christians each year at Easter. Most Christians, even those who do not interpret other parts of the Bible literally, accept th ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Encyclopedia II - Rand al'Thor - Reincarnation

Rand al'Thor is special in that he is the only known soul to be wove out by the Wheel of Time for a specific Rebirth. Although there are other known cases of rebirth (such as Birgitte Silverbow and Gaidal Cain), only Rand al'Thor's rebirth has been predicted. Most think of his soul as being Lews Therin Telamon, a male Aes Sedai from the Age of Legends who gained prominence in the Hall of Servants as the Dragon, the leader of the Forces of Light against the Shadow during the War of Power. This is, of course, why al ...

Messiah - Other Messiahs: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Messiah, mashiah

Messiah mashiah (Hebrew) Anointed; translated into the Greek as Christos. The Hebrews had their special form of the universal belief in the coming of avataras, and the Christians claimed that Jesus was the fulfillment of the particular Hebrew expectation.

Hence Messiah is often used as a title for Jesus. Generally, a Messiah is an esoteric spiritual sun, surrounded by his spiritual family composed of twelve less powers (as in the 12 disciples); the term is connected with fish and water symbols and with the zodiacal sign Pisces (Fishes).

Early Christian astrologers expected the coming of the Messiah to be signalized by a conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in Pisces, in connection with other planetary configurations. As regards the future, the looked-for great avatara is the Kalki-avatara of the Brahmins, virtually identical with Maitreya, the fifth buddha.

Whilst Brown must be deemed a great success as a 'psychological magician' by the yardstick of media exposure and television appearances, he is not alone in pioneering or originating this form of entertainment. From the 1990s onwards American psychologist turned entertainer Marc Salem has appeared with his project 'Mind Games' to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, in the theatre as well as on television. British-Dutch magician David Berglas was a household name in the 1960s and early 1970s with his intense, interactive television shows which drew heavily on his trainin ...

He has written two books on magic, Absolute Magic and Pure Effect. Absolute Magic is not so much about magical methodology as about how magicians can make their performances magical; it is written in a variety of styles, sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but always thought provoking. He warns against an act that conveys the feeling of "Here are some tricks I've bought" and urges magicians to make their performances experiential and memorable by involving the audience. In some respects a lot of what he says is ...
