| | | | Mendes: Encyclopedia II - Coat of arms Jewish - Sephardic Coats of ArmsThe practise of bearing coats of arms became more general among the Jews at the time of the Maranos. When a Jew became converted in Spain, he was generally adopted by some noble family, and thereby obtained the right to bear the family arms. In this way many Jewish families gained the right to shields, which they carried with them to Holland, and had carved on their tombstones, even after they had repudiated Christianity, which had given them the right to such shields. It would appear that at an even earlier period certain Spanish Jews had a ...

| | | | Mendes: Encyclopedia II - Scale-free network - Characteristics and examplesScale-free networks tend to contain centrally located, highly connected "hubs", which dramatically influences the way a network operates. For example, random node failures have very little effect on a scale-free network's connectivity or effectiveness, however deliberate attacks on such a network's hubs can dismantle a network with alarming ease. Thus, the realization that certain networks are scale-free is important to security.
These networks also exhibit the Small world phenomenon, in which two average nodes are separated by a very small number of connections. Als ...
