Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - List of Enigma videos - From MCMXC a.D.

List of Enigma videos - Sadeness Part I. "Sadeness Part 1" starts off with a man writing at a desk with a quill pen and slowly falls asleep. He then descends into a dream where he wears a red cloak, and explores the ruins of an old cathedral. During his exploration, the screen fades in and out from the cathedral into one of a woman. He is then brought back into the cathedral and tries to run away after opening a door that leads to darkness. He then disappears into the ground and the cloak left behind floats into the darkness, and he wakes up from his dream abruptly. < ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - List of Enigma videos - From Le Roi Est Mort Vive Le Roi!

List of Enigma videos - Beyond the Invisible. The music video for "Beyond the Invisible" was heavily influenced by Michael Cretu's vision of ice skating, forest nymphs, and "man-machines" (the latter of which also adorn the Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! album cover). A girl escapes from her unhappy home after an argument and flees into the forest, where the nymphs live. She sees a couple ice-skating in the middle of the woods and she hides in the bushes to watch the couple perform. Three "man-machin ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Lichtgestalt - Music

Recorded in 2005, it consists of 9 tracks, including the two different versions of The Party Is Over. The album has strong elements of symphonic metal. The album continues in the musical vein of Lacrimosa's previous albums, in contrast to Tilo Wolff's other musical project, Snakeskin. Lyrics cover Lacrimosa's by-now standard themes of love, estrangement and loneliness. A notable exception is the last individual track, Hohelied der Liebe, a song written entirely for orchestra and choir with no rock elements at all, and with lyrics taken from St Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians. 'Hohelied' is the Lutheran name for ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - The Metamorphosis - Interpretation

As with all of Kafka's works, The Metamorphosis is open to a wide range of interpretations; in fact, Stanley Corngold's book, The Commentator's Despair, lists over 130 interpretations. Most obvious are themes relating to society's treatment of those who are different. Other themes include the loneliness of being cut off and the desperate and unrealistic hopes that such isolation brings. Some also feel the book deals with the absurdity of human existence, leading some literary critics to associate it with existentialism. It is also possible to apply Freudia ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Mankey - Biology

Mankey are light and agile. They live in groups in the treetops. If one loses sight of its group, then it becomes infuriated with loneliness. Mankey is extremely quick to anger. It could be docile one moment, then thrashing away the next. It will not hesitate to attack anything, and they often attack handy targets in groups for no reason. If it does get violently enraged, it is unsafe to approach as it can't distinguish between friends and foes. It is easy to tell when it becomes angry as it starts shaking and its nasal breathing turns rough. However, due to the speed of its anger it is imposs ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Ingmar Bergman - Biography and style characteristics

Born in Uppsala, Sweden, to a Lutheran minister of Danish descent, Bergman grew up surrounded by religious imagery and discussion. Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Lacrimosa - Musical and thematic development

Lacrimosa's first album, Angst, is a very gloomy piece of slow, rather minimal music, dominated by keyboards and a depressed, sometimes frantic and insane, voice. In this early period, the themes explored through lyrics and music are of a very bleak nature, such as fear, helplessness, loneliness, the non-existence, unattainability or illusionary nature of love, and death. The same thematic preoccupations can be found on the next three albums, Einsamkeit, Satura and Inferno, but now and then a more positive note be ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Chungking Express - Analysis

Both stories, about disconnections, loneliness and being alone in the vast city, are photographed by Wong's longtime collaborator Christopher Doyle in the style of a music video, leaving impressions of movies from Jean-Luc Godard (signs, slogans, pop music) and from John Cassavetes (improvised dialogue and situations). Some critics, among them M. A. Abbas, have likened the motif of expiration dates to the imminence of the 1997 handover of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China (May 1st being, among other things, May Day). A similar theory relating the handover of Hong Kong to Wong Kar-wai's st ...

In some circles of the pro-ana movement, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are personified as women named Ana (for anorexia; hence the pro-ana movement) and Bella or Mia (for bulimia). Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Primeape - Biology

Primeape's most defining and prominent characteristic is its extremely violent attitude. It is almost perpetually furious for an indeterminate reason or perhaps for no reason at all, making it impossible to figure out a way to pacify it. It is said that a Primeape only calms down when it is completely alone, but since it is naturally very difficult to observe a Primeape in such a state without alerting it to one's presence, this is largely a moot point. However, if Primeape does calm down in loneliness, one could presume that what makes it an ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Jude the Obscure - Description

The novel is often thought of as Thomas Hardy's best work, not only for the elaborate structuring of the plot, where small and subtle details lead to the character's ruin, but in the themes of the book. Such themes include how human loneliness and sensuality can stop a person from trying to fulfill his dreams; how, when free from the trap of marriage, one's dreams will not be fulfilled if one is of a lower status; how the educated classes are often more like sophists than intellectuals; how living a libertine life full of integrity and passi ...

Loneliness: Encyclopedia II - Lost in Translation - Synopsis

On its surface, Lost in Translation is a movie about culture shock between East and West, yet this reveals itself as a metaphor for more important themes of alienation and loneliness, and alternatively companionship. The film explores how these themes combine at certain stages in life, against the background of highly modern Japanese cityscapes. Bob Harris (played by Bill Murray), is an American movie star on the downward slope of his career who has come to Tokyo, Japan, to film a Suntory whisky commercial (a reference to real- ...
