Tadeusz Kościuszko was born February 4, 1746, in the village of Mereszowszczyzna in Polesie, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (now Kosova in Belarus), to the szlachta family of Ludwik Tadeusz Kościuszko and Tekla (née Ratomska).
