Knowledge: Encyclopedia - Knowledge

Knowledge is present moment awareness. In other words, on a practical level knowledge is whatever we are aware of right now. This explains the commonly used phrase 'knowledge is power', because we can only act upon what we know, and these actions can only take place in the present moment. While an action may take place in the future, its result is not entirely predictable; therefore, we cannot ...

Knowledge: Encyclopedia II - Knowledge - Defining knowledge

While knowledge is a central part of daily life, the actual definition of knowledge is of great interest to philosophers, social scientists, and historians. Knowledge, according to most thinkers, must follow three defining criteria. It must be justified, true, and believed. Meeting these qualifications may be difficult or impossible. It is also common to weigh knowledge in how it can be applied or used. In this sense, knowledge consists of information augmented by intentionality (or direction). This model aligns with the DI ...

Knowledge: Encyclopedia II - Knowledge - Situated knowledge

Situated knowledge is knowledge specific to a particular situation. Imagine two very similar breeds of mushroom, which grow on either side of a mountain, one nutritious, one poisonous. Relying on knowledge from one side of an ecological boundary, after crossing to the other, may lead to starving rather than eating perfectly healthy food near at hand, or to poisoning oneself by mistake. Some methods of generating knowledge, such as trial and error, or learning from experience, tend to create highly situational knowledge. One of the main benefits of the scientific method is that the theories it generates are much less sit ...

Knowledge: Of Vedic Philosophy - The Process Of Knowledge

The Process Of Knowledge: An object excites the senses. The mind arranges the sense-impressions into a percept. Egoism refers it to the Self. Intellect forms the concept. It converts the percept into a concept and presents it to the Purusha. Then there is knowledge of the object.

Knowledge: Ramakrishna's Steps To Self Knowledge

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's advice to house-holders is: "A little spiritual discipline is necessary in order to know what lies within. The painter first draws the outlines and then fills in the details and colours at leisure. The moulder first makes the image out of clay, then plasters it, gives it a coat of whitewash, and last of all, paints it with a brush. All these steps must be undertaken successively." This is Ramakrishna's first 'commandment'.

Knowledge: Higher Knowledge

Hindu Quotes: Higher Knowledge

The study of the Vedas, linguistics,

Rituals, astronomy and all the arts

Can be called lower knowledge. The higher

Is that which leads to Self-realization.

The eye cannot see it; mind cannot grasp it.

The deathless Self has neither caste nor race,

Neither eyes not ears nor hands nor feet.

Sages say this Self is infinite in the great

And in the small, everlasting and changeless,

 The source of life.

- Mundaka Upanishad

Knowledge: Right Faith, Right Knowledge And Right Conduct

The three fundamental tenets for Jains are: Right faith, right knowledge and right conduct. A pursuit of these goals involves modest living, and prescribed behavior such as non-violence and stringent vegetarianism, and also various rituals and acts of devotion ( puja). The worship of images of mortal teachers or Thirthankaras (divinities) is common among Buddhists, Hindus, and Jains alike, but the approach of the Jains to the Tirthankaras differs from that of the other groups.

Knowledge: Gyana Yoga - Path of Knowledge

Gyana Yoga is the spiritual path of 'knowledge'. It aims at realising the Supreme Spirit through deep enquiry and constant contemplation upon the eternal truths. In Gyana Yoga, you will endeavour to achieve enlightenment through the study of sacred books of wisdom and truth.

Normally, people who are very well versed in religious and other scriptures (Scriptural scholars) are considered 'gyaan yogis'. But it is important to note that if knowledge is not balanced with devotion to God, then it will carry the danger of developing arrogance and one-sidedness.

Love sweetens our understanding just as knowledge sharpens and directs our love. Love that is uncontrolled by knowledge can be much like a hose that is turned on and then left without a guiding hand; it neighs and just gushes forth making it impossible to use it effectively.

Knowledge: Essence of God is Knowledge

Muslim Quotes: Essence of God is Knowledge

God is knowledge; he is knowing; and he is being known. Since God has knowledge of his own essence, and since God is one, it follows that the essence of God is knowledge. And knowledge means that he knows himself, and is known by himself.

Damned knowledge, a term coined by Charles Fort (who collected and published accounts of many anomalous phenomena), is knowledge suppressed, discounted, or not recognized as real because it does not fit into the dominant paradigm of the time (or, sometimes, because it fits too well). Knowledge: Encyclopedia - Techniques of Knowledge

The techniques of Knowledge as taught by Prem Rawat, known as Maharaji to his students, comprises four techniques that he claims helps his students to take their senses and invert them within to experience inner peace. Students often describe the experience simply as "going within." In the past, these techniques were referred to as "Light", "Sound", "Name" and "Nectar". To remove any cultural connotations, Maharaji nowadays refers to them as simply 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th techniques. Students see the ongoing relationship between the disciple and their teacher (guru in Indian culture) to ...

Empirical or a posteriori knowledge is propositional knowledge obtained by experience or sensorial information.
