Rome: Total War - Factions and cultures in the original game. When Rome is first installed, it will only allow the player to play as one of the three Roman factions: the Julii, the Brutii, or the Scipii. Over the course of a campaign as the Romans, additional factions will gradually be unlocked, up to a total of eight when the player wins the campaign. Julii: Encyclopedia II - Arezzo - History

Arezzo may have been one of the twelve most important Etruscan cities, the so-called Dodecapolis; the famous Chimera of Arezzo, now in Florence, was found here. Conquered by the Romans in the 3rd century BC, the city flourished as Arretium in the days of the Roman Empire, well-known in particular for its metalpottery manufactures, the characteristic Arezzo ware, bucchero-ware, and red-painted va ...

Julii: Encyclopedia II - Julio-Claudian dynasty - Dynastic relations

The dynasty is so named because its members were drawn from two of the patrician gentes of Ancient Rome, the Julii and the Claudii. Its founder, Caesar Augustus, was a Julian through his adoption by his great-uncle, Julius Caesar. Augustus' stepson Tiberius, whom he adopted as his successor, was a Claudian. The final three Julio-Claudian emperors—Caligula, Claudius I and Nero—were all of joint Julio-Claudian ancestry. The dynasty of the five emperors included in the Julio-Claudian dynasty are all linked to Julius Caesar< ...

Julii: Total War: Encyclopedia II - Rome: Total War - Modification

Another manner in which the game was marketed to the computer elite and veterans to the Total War series was that the game was heavily, if not completely moddable. However, hard-coded limitations of the engine have held up these operations, as well as many other possible modifications and game improvements. The hard-coding of many aspects of the game has heavily limited the ability to modify several key areas of the game, such as the faction selection. Modification has also been held back by limited documentation—much information cr ...

Julii: Total War: Encyclopedia II - Rome: Total War - Criticism

Rome: Total War and its expansion pack Barbarian Invasion have been criticised by Iranian players of the game due to the stereotypically Arabic (which includes Arabic music, unit appearance and tone and buildings) depiction of the Iranian dynasties of the Parthians and Sassanids. Before its release, RTW was marketed to potential gamers by proclamations of massive, real-time, fully three-dimensional battle scenes being completely accessible to the gaming community at large. However, some veteran gamers were disap ...

Julii: Encyclopedia II - Arezzo - Monuments and places of interest

Arezzo - Festivals. Arezzo is home to an annual medieval festival called the Joust of the Saracens (Giostra del Saracino). In this, "knights" on horseback representing different areas of the town charge at a wooden target attached to a carving of a Saracen king and score points according to accuracy. Virtually all the town's people dress-up in medieval costume and enthusiastically cheer on the competitors. Arezzo is also home to an annual popular music and culture festival, each J ...
