The Chapel Royal has a number of buildings, including the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace, and the Queen's Chapel in the same complex. The Chapel most commonly used its that in St James's Palace, which has been used regularly since 1702. These are served by a Choir comprising Gentlemen-in-Ordinary and Children of the Chapel - all boys - and by a small number of Priests-in-Ordinary (and usually also Deputy Priests-in-Ordinary) appointed to assist the Sub-dean on an occasional basis. * Encyclopedia II - Chapel Royal - History

Emerging as a distinct body in the late 13th century, it formerly had no official base, but travelled, like the rest of the court, with the monarch and held services wherever he or she was residing at the time. It dates from 1483 as presently constituted. The Dean of the Chapel Royal is a senior office dating from 1312, which has been held since 1748 by the Bishop of London. Daily control is vested in the Sub-dean, who is also Domestic Chaplain to the Sovereign at Buckingham Palace. In the 17th century the chapel had its own building in Whitehall, which burned down in 1698; since 1702 ...

Patrick Henry Pearse was born in Dublin. His father, a Catholic convert, was from a Cornish nonconformist family and an artisan/stonemason, who held moderate home rule views and his mother, Margaret, was from an Irish-speaking family in County Meath. The Irish-speaking influence of his aunt Margaret instilled in him an early love for the Irish language. In 1896, at the age of only sixteen, he joined the Gaelic League (Conradh na nGaeilge), and in 1903 at the age of 23, he became editor of its newspap ...

Upon the Athenæum's founding, its collections were housed briefly in Joy's buildings, Congress Street, but by spring 1807 moved to Scollay's buildings, Tremont Street, where they remained until 1809 when the Trustees purchased the Rufus Amory House next to the King's Chapel Burial Ground. * Encyclopedia II - Boston Athenæum - Library

By 1851 the Athenæum had become one of the five largest libraries in the United States, with a wide range of books and periodicals of interest to the general, cultivated reader. Amy Lowell's poem, "The Boston Athenæum", paints an appealing picture of the Athenæum library: "Above, below, on every side, high shelved / From careless grasp of transient interest, / Stand books we can but dimly see, their charm / Much greater that their titles are unread; / While on a level with the dusty floor / Others are ranged in orderly confusion, / And we must stoop in painful posture while / We ...
