Janet Jackson: Encyclopedia II - Rhythm and blues - Contemporary R&B

The term R&B today defines a style of African-American music, originating after the demise of disco in 1980, that combines elements of soul music, funk music, pop music, and (after 1986) hip-hop in the form known as contemporary R&B. CBS - Early years. CBS can trace its origins to the creation, in 1927 of the "United Independent Broadcasters" network. Begun by New York talent agent Arthur Judson, it went on the air in October of that year with 47 affiliates. Janet Jackson: Encyclopedia II - Billie Jean - History

As a song, Michael Jackson undertook the composition of "Billie Jean" quite personally, drawing upon actual circumstances. In about 1981, during a Jacksons tour, a woman known later to be a stalker had accused Jackson of not claiming the paternity of one of her fraternal twins. She went so far as to call herself "Billie Jean Jackson", and to claim she was married to the singer. The woman was later sent to an insane asylum. Later, in a 1996 interview, Jackson said that he had known a lot of figurative "Billie Jeans" who had been Jackson 5 groupies. "Every girl claimed that their child was related t ...

On July 9, 1956, Horn, following a drunk driving arrest, was replaced by Dick Clark. The show was picked up by ABC (becoming American Bandstand) on August 5, 1957 after some badgering from Clark to the network to put it on nationally, broadcasting daily (first live, then on kinescope when Clark went on tour with the singers) until 1963 and then airing weekly until 1989. Charlie O'Donnell, then a very young Philadelphia radio DJ, landed his very first network announcing assignment on Bandstand, a job he would hold until the late-1960s. ...
