Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Intimacy

This article is about the element of love. For the book by Hanif Kureishi, see Intimacy (book). For the movie by Patrice Chéreau, see Intimacy (2001 film). Intimacy - Definition. Intimacy is complex in that its meaning varies from relationship to relationship, and within a given relationship over time. In some relationships, intimacy is entwined with sex and feelings of closeness may be connected or confused with sexual feelings. In other relationships, intimacy has more to do with shared mo ...

Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Soulmate
Soulmate (or soul mate) is a term sometimes used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep affinity, friendship, love, strong intimacy or compatibility. A related concept is that of the twin flame or twin soul - thought to be the ultimate soulmate, the one and only other half of one's soul, which all souls are driven to find and unite with. However, not everyone who uses these terms intends them to carry such mystical connotations; they are sometimes used simply as an expression of str ...

Intimacy - Definition: Going All the Way With Tantric Celibacy

Tantric Celibacy: Going All the Way With Tantric Celibacy

Tantric yoga, as a system of rituals, exercises, and philosophical teachings, was developed over the past 2,500 years in a practical search for profound feeling and awareness. Just as a modern scientist might spend years on a single research problem, tantric yogis might dwell on a certain feeling for hours a day, plumbing its every nuance and what it told them about existence. They became experts in the arts of feeling and concentration.

Intimacy - Definition: Bob's Theory of Relativity of Love

In this article, I'd like to present a few ideas about Love and what Love means to me. It is not meant to be a definition of Love--I don't think Love can be defined, only described. This article is not an essay on what Love "should" or "should not" be. I'm not sure there are any "shoulds" when speaking about Love. The ideas in this article are only my opinions. I'm also sure that none of the ideas in this article are new or original because Love has been around longer than I have.

I'd like to explain a thing I call "Bob's Theory of Relativity." Stated simply, it says that everything Einstein said about light also applies to Love.

Intimacy - Definition: Beyond The 50/50 Relationship

Beyond The 50/50 Relationship

Many people today believe in a myth that says intimate happiness is attained through a 50/50 ideal of equality based on a notion of "sameness" between men and women. Belief in this myth of the 50/50 Relationship is one of the major reasons that men and women have been unable to cultivate and deepen sexual, emotional, and spiritual union in intimacy. As many of us have discovered, when we focus on dividing the pie equally, our intimate embrace often becomes more like a business handshake than a delicious swoon that dissolves two lovers into a single heart of desire.

Intimacy - Definition: Tantra in Depth

Tantra

Tantra is the state of feeling that there is no other person that is not ourselves. Tantra is the balance of the vibrant yin-yang energy. When we fully feel these complementary energies balanced within us, we feel like a whole and complete person-without the compulsory idea that we need another person to make us feel complete.

An excerpt from Tantra in Depth.

Intimacy - Definition: Addictive Love Relationships

There are two fascinating qualities that can enter into our lives or the lives of those we care for at any moment: love and addiction. At first these two may appear to be strange bedfellows: love evokes pleasurable images of couples passionately embracing or tenderly gazing into each others' eyes, while addiction brings up a darker, grim, even desperate image of people struggling against a part of themselves that is out of control. Yet at their core, both have in common a profound spiritual yearning, the desire to transcend the self, to experience powerful states of bliss and ecstasy and to merge with and feel a part of something greater than oneself.

Intimacy - Definition: Are You Or Your Partner Addicted To Drama?

We are all familiar with chemical addictions to intoxicating substances such as alcohol or cocaine. Sex, work and Internet use are also frequently mentioned as aspects of life that can be used addictively. The least recognized addiction in our society, however, may be the addiction to drama that manifests in so many relationships. While drama is a legitimate category of cinema and theater, as an addictive process in relationships it refers to an ongoing dysfunctional need to continually recreate unsafe and unhealthy emotional intensity in one's relationships.

Intimacy - Definition: Sanskrit - a divine Language?

Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages in the World. The mundane understanding of sound and language is that it is only used for communication between two or more people. But at another level, the science of sound and language is a huge field of wisdom that affect many aspects of life, not the least our spiritual wellbeing. This article explain in detail the science of sound and language and how this wisdom has been an imbedded key component of the ancient sciences of India for thousands of years. Yoga, chanting and the use of mantras are all closely connected to the conscious use of sound and language for healing and spiritual awakening.

Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Baseball euphemism

One subject often used as a metaphor for physical intimacy, especially to describe the level of intimacy achieved in intimate encounters or relationships, is the game of baseball. This analogy is primarily used by American adolescents to describe how far they have gone (or hope to go) on a date or in a dating relationship with a particular person. In the baseball metaphor, the intimate encounter or relationship itself is compared to the act of running the bases, where each progressive base indicates a more intimate level of contact, although ...

Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Love

Love has several different meanings in English, from something that gives a little pleasure ("I loved that meal") to something one would die for (patriotism, pairbonding). It can describe an intense feeling of affection, an emotion or an emotional state. In ordinary use, it usually refers to interpersonal love. Probably due to its psychological relevance, love is one of the most common themes in art. Love might best be defined as acting intentionally, in sympathethic response to ot ...

Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Childfree

Childfree is a term used to describe those who do not have, and do not desire, children. A popular alternative description is "childless by choice". Childfree - Etymology and usage. The term stands in contrast to "childless", which some argue implies that children are "lacking" and desired; childfree persons would argue that their lives are no more or less complete without offspring. Some may like children, others may be indifferent, and still others may dislike children; but the commonality between childfr ...

Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Sex

Sex, in the scope of this article and category, refers to the male and female duality of biology and reproduction. The somewhat similar term gender has more to do with identity than biology. The concept is confined to organisms that reproduce sexually. The female sex is defined as the one which produces the larger gamete (i.e., reproductive cell) and which typically bears the offspring. The category of sex reflects the biological reproductive function, rather than sexaulity or other behaviors. In some lower animals, sex may be assigned to specific structures rather than the entire organism as some species, such a ...

Intimacy - Definition: Encyclopedia - Baseball slang

Paul Dickson says in his introduction to The New Dickson Baseball Dictionary, "The influence of baseball on American English at large is stunning and strong." No other sport has contributed so richly to American English as baseball. Slang terms (as distinct from jargon) have evolved a usage and meaning independent of baseball and are often used by those with little knowledge of the game. Many of these terms are deeply entrenched in the American psyche. The following are common American slang terms, each of ...

The Enneagram (or Enneagon) is a nine-pointed diametric figure which is used to indicate the dynamic ways that aspects of things and processes are connected and change.
