The process of torture is designed to invade and destroy the belief of the subject in their independence as a human being, to destroy presumptions of privacy, intimacy, and inviolability assumed by the subject, and to destroy their unspoken trust that these things can save them. Beyond merely invading the subject's mental, physical independ ...

| | | | Intimacy: Encyclopedia II - Petting - TechniqueDifferent animals respond well to different types of petting, even within the same species: one cat may enjoy a light scratch, just between her eyes, while another cat may demand to be kneaded like a loaf of bread. An elephant might like a stiff brush scrubbed in circles, a horse prefers a medium brush, front to back.
Some animals, including many cats, seem to hate being pet in the reverse direction from the way their fur goes, so much so that for one to 'rub someone the wrong way' has become an idiomatic w ...

| | | | Intimacy: Encyclopedia II - Psychology of torture - BackgroundTorture is common in situations where disparities in interpersonal power and control occur. It is a well known theme in religious, political, and military histories. It is less well known in social contexts such as domestic abuse, child abuse and elder abuse. It is just beginning to become well known in sexual contexts such as rape, pedophilia, and incest. Well known or little known, torture is no less terrible to its subjects.
Torture to children, in particular, induces incredible damage because, in addition to the terrible suffering ...

| | | | | Intimacy: Encyclopedia II - Psychology of torture - Psychology of torturersIt was long thought that "good" people would not torture and only "bad" ones would, under normal circumstances. Research over the past 50 years suggests a disquieting alternative view, that under the right circumstances and with the appropriate encouragement and setting, most people can be encouraged to actively torture others.
For more details of the psychology of torturers, rather than their subjects, and the process by which torture becomes acceptable to its practitioners ...

Jody Watley - Flower.
After spending most of 1997 in the recording studio crafting her sixth studio album, Flower, Watley was back in early 1998 with its lead off singles "Off The Hook" and "If I'm Not In Love." In spite of both songs hitting #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts, and "Off The Hook" peaking at #23 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart, both ultimately failed to make waves on the pop chart. Big Beat Records was absorbed into its parent label, Atlantic Records, which then shelved the album from a US re ...

Bhakti Yoga Dictionary on Visrambha Visrambha - lit. vigita means ‘completely devoid of’ and srambha means ‘awarness of his majesty or greatness’ i.e. complete intimacy without feelings of inferiority or worship. (1) loosening, absence of restraint, confidence, trust, intimacy, love. (2) In his Locana-rocani commentary on Ujjvala-nilamani (14.108) Jiva Gosvami has defined visrambha as the feeling of complete identification with the beloved such that one’s identity is not separate from that of the beloved. In his Ananda-candrika commentary on the same sloka, Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura has defined visrambha as deep faith, devoid of formality. Visrambha impels one to think that one’s life, mind, intelligence, body, and possessions are one in all respects with the life, mind, intelligence, and body of the beloved.
