| ARTICLES RELATED TO Inner Self | | | | Inner Self: The Ten Keys To Happiness Listen to your body's wisdom, which expresses itself through signals of comfort and discomfort. When choosing a certain behaviour, ask your body: How do you feel about this? If your body sends a signal of physical or emotional distress, watch out. If your body sends a signal of comfort and eagerness, proceed. | | | | Inner Self: Affirmation for Good Health Most religious teachings aver that one can do nothing to uplift oneself: One can only wait for God's grace to descend. Other teachings aver the opposite - that man must do the whole work of upliftment himself, without the benefit of grace. Paramhansa Yogananda brought these two teachings together into a harmonious whole. He explained that we should use Òour own, but God-given powerÓ. God, in other words, doesn't do all the work for us, but neither can we do it all alone. | | | | Inner Self: Music to Uplift Your Consciousness The important thing to bear in mind, while practicing affirmations, is that because the mind has a tendency to use words while thinking, it is helpful to use them in such a way as to uplift the mind in cooperation with divine inspiration. Here are some points to remember while you repeat uplifting word-phrases and melodies during the day: (See also: Life Transforming Affirmations, Affirmations, Practising Affirmations, Life Transforming Affirmations, Essence of Affirmations, Faith and Belief, Peace of Mind, Love and Happiness, Body Mind and Soul)

| | | | Inner Self: Are You Living On The Edge? Financial, emotional or physical stress can be a real energy drain and ample motivation to play it safe. I don't like being at my edge, it's scary and unsettling. It calls up my anxiety and my old fears and doubts that I think I've resolved. Despite my resistance, I want to know what continues to push me forward, and creates the ability to withstand and thrive when I am pushed to my edge. Where's your edge? What are you at the brink of and wanting to press forward with in your life? What dreams or passions are you denying because you want to stay safe in your comfort zone? | | | | Inner Self: Have a Great Day Everyday! I have a standing interview every Monday morning on a radio station in the southeast that I enjoy very much. You can imagine though that it can become routine. So to make it a little more fun, the host nowadays doesn't even tell me the topic before we go live on the air, and that puts some excitement into it! This past week he asked me the following question cold at the beginning of the show:: How can a person guarantee that they will have a great day, every day? Now some may find that a hard question but for me it was actually a very easy question to answer (a little harder to actually live, but not that hard). | | | | Inner Self: To be or not to be that is the question Managers have to be very careful while making decisions. The first step is to collect the right information from the right sources. The Chief Executive spends a lot of time collecting and analysing various information. Such information is categorised by Kautilya as three types: "The affairs of a king (leader) are of three kinds: directly perceived, unperceived and inferred" (This article explores the relevance of principles discussed in the 3rd Century BC treatise, Kautilya's ÔArthashastra', in Today's Corporate World) (See also: Practising Affirmations, Affirmations, Practising Affirmations, Life Transforming Affirmations, Essence of Affirmations, Faith and Belief, Peace of Mind, Love and Happiness, Body Mind and Soul)

| | | | Inner Self: Harder than saying sorry American Biswanath Halder had always nursed what he believed was a legitimate grudge against his old college. Three years ago he went berserk which left Norman Wallace, a young student, dead. While sentencing him to life imprisonment, the judge told a seemingly nonrepentant Halder that some of Wallace's relatives were in court and that he owed them an apology. Halder responded with: "It's a terrific tragedy and I'm exceptionally sorry." To this, one of the victim's brothers replied: "I do forgive you. I don't want to have that on me. I don't want to be like you." Genuine apologies are, of course, very difficult and Halder's was nowhere near that. | | | | Inner Self: The Three Keys To Happiness Life has a way of taking unexpected turns - of throwing surprises at us when we least expect them. In many ways, life does bring one down. When unplanned and unexpected events come into our lives, they leave us in a state of pain, grief, doubt, fear and depression. One feels the need for a strong and stable foundation that one can depend on when life's river takes unexpected turns. A simple formula is needed that can keep us grounded on the path and pointed in the right direction - that of flow, let go, forgiveness and happiness. Here is just such a simple solution, presented in the form of three keys, that when remembered and practiced, keep us going in the right direction and while we walk the path, they also are the catalysts in bringing happiness. | | | | Inner Self: Change Yourself Through Affirmations An affirmation is a statement of truth which one aspires to absorb into his life. It has been said that we are what we eat. It would be truer to say, ÒWe are what we think.Ó For our minds express, and also influence, the reality of what we are far more than our bodies do. Our thoughts even influence, to a great extent, our physical health. Words, which are crystallized thoughts, have immeasurable power, especially when we speak them with concentration. The mere thought of fatigue is enough to sap our energy. To strengthen that thought by the words, ÒI'm exhausted,Ó gives definition, and therefore added power, to the thought itself. | | | | Inner Self: Faith: Staircase to God Yours faithfully - A letter ends there. However, faith is the beginning of the human quest for self-discovery and the Absolute. Faith can be neither forced nor taught; it is an experience that transcends trust, reason, belief and ideology. Belief in religious scripture confines the mind; the trust we repose in an individual, too, is a limiting factor. The intellect can only too often weave a cobweb of theories, and reason can cause mistrust, taking us away from discovering the great scope and depth of an infinite power that's faith, that can otherwise serve as an effective spiritual guide. | | | | Inner Self: Impertinent Query, Profound Answer " That is the essence of science: Ask an impertinent question and you are on the way to the pertinent answe r", wrote Dr J Bronowski in Ascent of Man. This statement is probably equally - or perhaps more - valid in our spiritual quests. The Kathopanishad starts with Nachiketa posing a question to his father Vajasravasa, who was giving away gifts after a Yagna . | | | | Inner Self: Ramakrishna's Steps To Self Knowledge Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's advice to house-holders is: "A little spiritual discipline is necessary in order to know what lies within. The painter first draws the outlines and then fills in the details and colours at leisure. The moulder first makes the image out of clay, then plasters it, gives it a coat of whitewash, and last of all, paints it with a brush. All these steps must be undertaken successively." This is Ramakrishna's first 'commandment'. | | | | Inner Self: Drawing Inspiration From Playing Fields Annual sports functions are quite similar in the choice of events and the manner in which they are conducted. But the one I attended recently was different, for purely personal reasons. While viewing the events, my mind began exploring and searching for hidden messages behind each performance. I wondered whether the children and their parents, for whom all this was being enacted, were aware of the spirit behind the sporting events. Could it be that the teachers, who conceptualised and organised the events, deliberately structured them in such a way as to make the participants more aware persons? I had no prepared speech; so I decided to take the children on an internal journey. | | | | Inner Self: From Self-reliance To Self-surrender Weak people say: "I resign myself to God because I am helpless to proceed further". But such words are not convincing for they reveal that there is, still, a trace of the crude ego left. The exhibition of humility is only a pretence, a cover. And this is misinterpreted by others as piety. Hanuman says in the Ramayana: "I have surrendered everything to Rama and I have installed Him firmly in my heart. I am His faithful servant". Such a statement is convincing because it comes from a strong, fearless and intelligent person. | | | | Inner Self: The Grandparent Connection Grandparents and grandchildren are often linked by a special affection for each other. There seems to be a natural bond between them, perhaps because both are a little outside the rush of life's middle years. When we look deeper into this relationship, however, we find traces of another pattern. We may discover one of the pathways connecting birth and death. | | | | Inner Self: The Ghost In the MachineMaggy Harsch-Fishbach began experimenting with EVP in 1984. Although her husband Jules was initially skeptical of the phenomenon, she gained such positive results that he became convinced the other worldly voices were genuine. For the first year and a half, their results were typical of what other EVP experimenters obtain, but in 1986 they received a message that was to change significantly the way they worked.
