| ARTICLES RELATED TO Inner Self | | | | Inner Self: Poverty consciousness and Material Well-Being We are what we choose to be. Man has access to all the gifts given by Existence. Yet life on earth for many is one of want and deprivation. There are people living below relative poverty lines, and there are those who are overwhelmed by their excesses in wealth. Why these differences? Is it that God is partial and kind to one at the cost of another? No! Relative differences arise because one believes that the abundance of the earth is for him to reach out and access, while the poverty-torn person unconsciously and continuously re-affirms his / her poverty-consciousness. | | | | Inner Self: One step at a time... Change all thoughts to empowering ones. Ask not "Why me?" Ask, "What can I do to reach my goals?" Change any mindset of "I can't" to a mindset of "I can." Just as when you climbed the high diving board as a child, gave a first speech in college, got married, or decided to be a parent, you will find the strength to face any future challenges. Change any overly independent thoughts such as "I'll handle this alone" to "I have many sources of help, if I simply ask." Shift any catastrophising thoughts such as "This is the worst thing that could happen to me" to "I'm sure I'll survive this one." | | | | Inner Self: The Power of Positivity in Creating Abundance We limit ourselves by limited thinking. Many a times, our beliefs follow long habituated patterns of established behavior. We need to, at times, raise our level of thinking by affirming to ourselves, the universal abundance and positive influences... thereby dispersing our cloudy belief-patterns into a fresh downpour of creative abundance! By choosing to curb the babble of untruth, both inner and outer, by listening to the guidance from within and following the path of what we find most spiritually nurturing, we open a channel of abundance, blocked only by our limited thinking. | | | | Inner Self: Know your soul Conventional wisdom dictates that we must set clear goals and have a vision if we are to achieve great things. After all, how can we get to where we are going if we do not know where we want to go? Now I ask, who is setting the goals and who is creating the vision? Too Zen? Where there is Zen, there may be Yen! No joke, studies of Fortune 500 CEOs found that the top executives relied upon quiet time, moments of prolonged inner reflection, to help them make better decisions. The inner connection allowed them greater access to intuitive problem solving which resulted in clearer thinking and more effective decision making. | | | | Inner Self: Sky Is The Limit Philosophers have long held that happiness is the ultimate goal of existence. Aristotle called it the "summum bonum" - the "chief good" - in that while we desire other goods such as money or power because we believe that they will make us happy, we want happiness for its own sake. So do material goods really lead you to happiness? According to brain scientists, there is actually a specific area in the brain that sets expectations of material gain, and as material goals are achieved, it resets expectation levels. This means that you could be unhappy despite being wealthy, if your expectations were higher, and happy in penury if you exceeded expectations. | | | | | Inner Self: Become a joyous human being One thing that I would like to remind you of at this point is, in this world, on this planet, most of the harm, most of the pain, most of the suffering has been caused to people, to humankind, only with good intentions, not with bad intentions. The maximum slaughter and killing has happened on this planet only with good intentions. If you look at the world, the fight is not between the good and the bad. It is always the good people who are fighting. If you are a good Indian, you fight a good Pakistani; if you are a good Hindu, you fight a good Muslim. The better you are, the more you fight. It is not the bad people who are fighting each other. It is always good people with good intentions.... | | | | Inner Self: Dance with your pain Why is it so difficult for us to release the pain of yesterday and move forward with our lives? It's not as though we enjoy being stuck in painful memories.Rather, the longer we remain stuck in them, the more deeply they wound us. Someone very close to me refuses to let go of the pain her ex-husband inflicted on her years ago. I admit it was a horrible time for her, and left very deep wounds. It is understandable that she would have trouble letting go of these memories, as they are a part of her. Yet, they are not just a part of her, they are the biggest part of her. Why? Because she chooses to make them so. | | | | Inner Self: Life is Beautiful You want to be passionate about your work, because you are passionate about your life. You also know people who hear a little voice calling them to do sacred work. They always hear a divine voice that tells them what to do or they feel a real sense of mission in life. They absolutely must become musicians, artists, or writers. They have to save the rainforests, or free Tibet, or become a pediatrician because not doing so is like not breathing. | | | | Inner Self: Leap into the Storm Most of the world likes to play it safe. They go to their safe jobs, come home to their safe relationships, they drive safe cars, they invest money in safe corporations, they think safe thoughts and they want nothing more than to feel safe and secure. But there is another kind, too. This other group lives for thrills. They don't just think outside the box, they prefer to live outside the box. This is a group which thrives on adventure. They love innovative new ideas, they like to explore new things, and push the envelope beyond its capabilities. This group often does not feel understood nor supported by the mainstream population. | | | | Inner Self: Finding The Master To engender manifestation of any desire, you have to focus all your energies on it. The rays of the shining sun when focused through the magnifying glass can cause the paper to burn up, not otherwise. This focus is crucial especially if the goal is the Divine One. While other desires may get fulfilled, the Divine One still tends to stay elusive. Ever silent and ever-present, the Lord seeks to see if we are willing to be pleased and satisfied with His little gifts or if we are willing to find our true happiness only in the realisation of His Cosmic consciousness. | | | | | Inner Self: Let Me Hug All of You in Love and Friendship Love has the special quality of attracting abundance of love in return. Ahimsa means the largest love, the greatest charity. As a follower of ahimsa, I must love my enemy. I must apply the same rules to the wrongdoer who is my enemy or a stranger to me, as I would to my wrongdoing father or son. This active necessarily includes truth and fearlessness. As man cannot deceive loved ones, he does not fear or frighten them. Gift of life is the greatest of all gifts; a man who gives it disarms all hostility. He has paved the way for an honourable understanding. | | | | | Inner Self: To be or not to be that is the question Managers have to be very careful while making decisions. The first step is to collect the right information from the right sources. The Chief Executive spends a lot of time collecting and analysing various information. Such information is categorised by Kautilya as three types: ÒThe affairs of a king (leader) are of three kinds: directly perceived, unperceived and inferredÓ (This article explores the relevance of principles discussed in the 3rd Century BC treatise, Kautilya's ÔArthashastra', in Today's Corporate World) (See also: Practising Affirmations, Affirmations, Practising Affirmations, Life Transforming Affirmations, Essence of Affirmations, Faith and Belief, Peace of Mind, Love and Happiness, Body Mind and Soul)

| | | | Inner Self: Staying in the light White light is the mind's symbol of all things great and creative. Light is the source of life, it creates life and maintains life. White light is a symbolic interpretation of God and love. It also represents purity and healing. It is believed that imagining white light within us, radiating out from us, and being connected to us, will instruct the mind to be aligned with love, life, healing and creation. By being still and visualising white light, we are able to activate our own emotions to generate love and lightness. This again gets back to what we think and feel. Which in turn attracts us to that, which is compatible or similar. | | | | Inner Self: Harder than saying sorry American Biswanath Halder had always nursed what he believed was a legitimate grudge against his old college. Three years ago he went berserk which left Norman Wallace, a young student, dead. While sentencing him to life imprisonment, the judge told a seemingly nonrepentant Halder that some of Wallace's relatives were in court and that he owed them an apology. Halder responded with: ÒIt's a terrific tragedy and I'm exceptionally sorry.Ó To this, one of the victim's brothers replied: ÒI do forgive you. I don't want to have that on me. I don't want to be like you.Ó Genuine apologies are, of course, very difficult and Halder's was nowhere near that. | | | | Inner Self: Contentment - the 'Supreme Virtue' Contentment means living to the fullest the good of every passing moment. Above all, it means living in the present moment, in the Eternal Now. How much is lost in life by people who perennially wish things other than they are! Who complain unceasingly, and tell themselves that the world owes them more than it is giving them! We must smile inwardly with God, knowing that life is His dream. Contentment is the surest way of drawing the very best out of every circumstance. | | | | | Inner Self: Is Anger Ruining Your Life? Part II When we are caught in anger, we are always cutting ourselves off from the bigger picture and from a sense of our basic connectedness. If we could see our angry emotional reactions clearly, it would become obvious that they deplete us and narrow our life. We would see how they are aversions to life, how they separate us and keep us closed. Yet, in spite of the fact that we hurt ourselves and others with our anger, we hold on to this restricting emotion with a puzzling tenacity.
