Inner peace - Quotes: Encyclopedia - Inner peace

Inner peace (or peace of mind) is a colloquialism that refers to a state of being mentally or spiritually at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress. Being "at peace" is considered by many to be healthy (homeostasis) and the opposite of being stressed or anxious. Peace of mind is generally associated with bliss and happiness. Many spiritual or religious people believe that it is only truly possible to achieve inner peace ...

Inner peace - Quotes: Encyclopedia - Peace
The concept of peace ranks among the most controversial in our time. Peace undoubtedly carries a positive connotation; almost nobody admits to opposing peace; world peace is widely seen as one of the most noble goals of humanity. Various groups, however, differ sharply about what peace entails, how best to achieve peace, and whether peace is even truly possible. Peace - What is peace?. Peace is many things: the meaning of the word peace changes with context. Peace may refer specifically to an agreement conc ...

Inner peace - Quotes: Encyclopedia II - Peace - What is peace?

Peace is many things: the meaning of the word peace changes with context. Peace may refer specifically to an agreement concluded to end a war, or to a lack of external warfare, or to a period when a country's armies are not fighting enemies. It can also refer more generally to quietude, such as that common at night or in remote areas, allowing for sleep or meditation. Peace can be an emotion or internal state. And finally, peace can ...

Inner peace - Quotes: A Gift From Our Common Past

Buddhist Quotes: A Gift From Our Common Past

I see all the different religious traditions as paths for the development of inner peace, which is the true foundation of world peace. These ancient traditions come to us as a gift from our common past. Will we continue to cherish it as a gift and hand it over the the future generations as a legacy of our shared desire for peace?

Inner peace - Quotes: Multiple Ways of Seeing Things

Information is often tailored to fit preconceived notions and stereotypes. In wartime, we repeatedly air scenes of "our side" coming under attack - scenes of the hellish misery inflicted on the citizens of the other country are rarely broadcast.

Dialogue that creates peace with others must first start with an open and earnest "inner dialogue".

It is vital to ask ourselves: Do I accept without question the images provided to me? Ceasing to introspect, we become self-righteous and dogmatic and discourse becomes a one-way street: Unable to hear others, real dialogue becomes impossible.

Inner peace - Quotes: Fasting, Praying and Charity

Ramzan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, offers an extensive programme of reform and spiritual elevation to all Muslims to help remould their entire being.

Since human beings tend to frequently lose touch with their inner world, Islam has provided for a substantial provision for an annual "workshop" in the form of siyam or Roza. This trains and equips us to reach out to the inner self, by firmly dealing with any moral laxity and indiscipline.

Inner peace - Quotes: Ten Soldiers of Mara - Obstruct Nibbana

Conquering Mara is a big challenge. Consider Mara an evil 'being' out to delude humanity - a personification of one's mental impurities. Sayagyi U Ba Khin, the renowned Vipassana meditation teacher of the twentieth century, explained the 10 biggest obstructions on the path to total inner purification. "You have to be very careful", he said. "You have to stand firm and face many difficulties, so that you can know true anicca (Pali word for impermanence) from your own experience".

The Buddha describes these difficulties in Padhana Sutta:

Inner peace - Quotes: The Guru Shows The Path

A guru shows the path of enlightenment to seekers. The guru is both a formal teacher and a spiritual preceptor. He is a storehouse of spiritual energy, which he can transmit to others. He helps the aspirant to polish his inner self till it reflects the light of truth. In the Shirdi Sai Satcharita a seeker asks Shirdi Baba: "Where to go?" Baba replies: "High up". The seeker then asks: "How to go there?" Baba answers: "Take a guide, he will take you straight and make you avoid the ditches and wild beasts in the jungle". Even avatars like Rama and Krishna subjected themselves to the tutelage of worthy gurus like Vashishta and Sandipani.

Inner peace - Quotes: Peace That Transcends Understanding

As we began to write this article on peace , which is the fourth of five human values we've been writing on (truth, righteousness, love, peace and non-violence), two things came to mind. The first was a Christian scripture that has meant a lot to each of us since childhood:

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds .

Inner peace - Quotes: Is there any religious implication or affiliation with meditation?

Is there any religious implication or affiliation with meditation?

Meditation has been and still is a central practice in eastern religions, for contacting "God" or one's higher Self. Christianity also has semblances of meditation, such as the biblical statement "The kingdom of heaven is within you".

Inner peace - Quotes: Meditation and Breath

Meditation and Breath

Meditation is the practice of turning the attention from outer awareness to inner concentration. In the practice of Kundalini Maha Yoga, meditation is much more than a relaxation technique. It is a way of easing resistance to the ascent of the Kundalini energy by quieting the fluctuations of the mind. Of all the forms of meditation, meditation through attention on the breath is the simplest and most direct way to Self-realization.

Inner peace - Quotes: Even the Gods

Buddhist Quotes: Even the Gods

For the one who has no inner, angry thoughts,

Who has gone past being a someone, a this or a that,

That one is free from fear and is blissful.

Even the gods cannot win such serenity.

- Udana Sutta

Inner peace - Quotes: Enter The Temple Of Inner Beauty

A beautiful woman is one who values herself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Beauty is the total impact of all these aspects. Mind and body are inter-related; the state of one reflects on the other.

Yet another dimension is the soul, the inner beauty. It is more a part of us than mere body and mind; it is indestructible. Beauty includes inner beauty. To be a complete person, you have to work on not only your external beauty; you have to develop your inner beauty also.

Inner peace - Quotes: Sound of the Inner Void

Real strength is not what the physical eyes perceive. Real strength is the inner strength, the true self of the being. And the secret to this is the inner stability or sthirta. Strength is a very deep and subtle concept and is not just about physical appearance.

It is that which is sthir, which is silent, is pure energy. Just by the strength of one's sthirta one develops the capacity to draw any kind of force inside.

We now give you an intense and very effective technique for building the real strength which is all about maintaining inner silence, the technique of "Sound of the Inner Void."

Inner peace - Quotes: Why Spirituality As The Basis For Work?

Imagine riding in a car whose four cylinder engine is working on only three cylinders, and whose gasoline is diluted with water. The car will struggle along, using only a part of its inherent power. It might still get you where you want to go, but with difficulty (and probably not up the steep hills!).

At work, if we are running on only the power of mind , body, and emotions, we're running on only three cylinders. And if we find ourselves reacting to situations with anxiety, agitation, or anger - and feeling "there's not enough time to do our best" - we're using diluted fuel. What's missing?

Inner peace - Quotes: Knowing to Being - A Paradigm Shift

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who founded the Transcendental Meditation technique, recently said that a great shift is about to take place in the world; a new paradigm is unfolding for faster progress. Maharishi said this great leap of progress for mankind will be a shift from "knowing to Being".

For generations, life has been lived on the level of "knowing" (I know this, I know that). But "Being" is the basis of knowing. The field of Being is infinitely more powerful than the surface level of "knowing". Physics tells us that more subtle levels of nature contain more intelligence, more power (the atomic level is more powerful than the molecular level).

Inner peace - Quotes: The Wonderful Depths of Silence

Generally, quietude, calmness, peace, silence and stillness are taken to be identical states of mind. But in reality, this is not so. All these are states of a deepening order of consciousness, silence being the deepest. In a state of deep silence, there are no thoughts, feelings or mental movements that can disturb or alter the peace of the inner-being.

The human mind gets absorbed in the core of silence where it touches the original source of energy, love, purity and bliss of The Being, and discovers the soul. The mind is transmuted into the Mind of Light. This transmutation is the bridge that leads us to our true Self within. There, God becomes a living presence, and silence a conversation of the soul with God, wordless and wonderful.

Inner peace - Quotes: Rooting for Ahimsa In Troubled Times

Now more than ever, we require those qualities that Mahatma Gandhi so remarkably embodied - qualities which are crystallised in the philosophy of ahimsa or non-violence that he bequeathed to us: Optimism, activism, love for people, and a holistic, embracing vision.

"I remain an optimist," he said, "not because I give evidence that right is going to prosper, but because of my unflinching faith that right must prosper in the end."

For Gandhi, at the deepest level of the human spirit, non-violence is never defeated. Violence, in contrast, inevitably ends in defeat.

Inner peace - Quotes: Uses of Spirituality At the Workplace

Does the recent interest exhibited in non-fiction titles such as The Soul of Business, A Spiritual Audit of Corporate America, The Stirring of Soul in the Workplace, The Three-Minute Meditation etc in the US point to the possible evolution of the "enlightened corporate sector"?

Do Indian managers, born in a land that has offered "yoga and meditation" to the world corporate sector (to overcome stress), have the "first-mover advantage"? These are the questions that should interest "enlightened" managers in "progressive" Indian corporations.
