Reality Therapy - Make plans and perform actions.
Plans for making better choices are at the heart of successful Reality Therapy. The counsellor helps the client to make a workable plan to get what he or she wants. It is and must be the client's plan; not the counselor's. The essence of a workable plan, in Reality Therapy, is that it is a plan you can implement - in other words, it concentrates on the things that are in your control to do: Examples:
You can't make your spouse talk to you but you can ...

introduction to Cognitive TherapyCognitive Therapy is the study of all human activities related to knowledge. These activities include Attention, Creativity, Memory, Perception, Problem Solving, Thinking and Use of Language. It is viewed as a psychological treatment of thoughts. | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Reality Therapy - CriticismsReality Therapy at present is little known, and little tested. Its "one answer solves all" approach is likely to receive criticism similar to many other "one answer solves all" schools of therapy.
An opposing view to this is, that many other schools of therapy (especially cognitive approaches) focus on the present rather than the past, and that the concept of disconnection (or failure to correctly perceive how motive and inner need/intent are linked), is in some form or other, at the root of dysfunction is also considered not unusual, ...

Reality Therapy - Involvement.
Establishing a relationship with the client is believed to be the most important factor in all types of psychotherapy. Without this relationship, the other steps will not be effective.
In extreme cases, the therapist may be the only person in the client's life who is willing to put up with the client's behavior long enough to establish a relationship, which can require a great deal of patience from the therapist. In other cases, the client just needs a relationship with a positive emphasis.

 | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Reparative therapy - HistoryThe idea of altering a person's sexual orientation is not a new idea and harkens back to the start of psychology itself. By classifying homosexuality as a disorder, psychoanalysis first defined homosexuality as an exclusive sexual orientation and, thus, discovered the possibility of altering that orientation 2. Researchers such as Irving Bieber, Lawrence Hatterer and Sigmund Freud attempted to cure homosexuality through a variety of techniques, including "aversion therapy, nausea-producing drugs, castration, electric shock, brain surgery, breast amputations, etc." [2]. | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Cognitive therapy - The basicsCognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion), and how we act (behaviour) all interact together. Specifically, our thoughts determine our feelings and our behaviour. Therefore negative thoughts can cause us distress and result in problems.
One example could be someone who, after making a mistake, thinks "I'm useless and can't do anything right." This impacts negatively on their mood and makes them feel depressed; then they worsen the problem by reacting to avoid acti ...

 | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Chinese food therapy - Philosophy about FoodThe ideas of yin and yang are used in the sphere of food and cooking. Yang foods are believed to increase the body's heat (eg. raise the metabolism), while Yin foods are believed to decrease the body's heat (eg. lower the metabolism). As a generalization, Yang foods tend to be dense in food energy, especially energy from fat, while Yin foods tend to have high water content. The Chinese ideal is to eat both types of food to keep the body in balance. A person eating too much Yang food might suffer from acne and bad breath while a ...

 | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Automatic writing - Use in stimulating creativityAndré Breton pioneered the use of automatic writing within the Surrealist movement and produced several important pieces while using the technique, most famously Soluble Fish. The ideas of Hélène Smith, the so-called "Muse of Automatic Writing", also influenced the Surrealist movement (in the Surrealist deck of cards, Smith is the "Genius of Knowledge").
Automatic writing became a part of the Surrealist's repertoire of games, and it soon developed into a number of other Surrealist games and tools that greatly influenced the movement, such as automatic drawing, automatic palimpses ...

Human genetic engineering - Curing medical conditions.
When treating problems that arise from genetic disorder, one solution is gene therapy. A genetic disorder is a situation where some genes are missing or faulty. When this happens, genes may be expressed in unfavorable ways or not at all, and this generally leads to further complicatons.
The idea of gene therapy is that a non-pathogenic virus or other delivery system can be used to insert a piece of DNA--a good copy of the gene--into cells of the living ...

 | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Wilhelm Reich - T-bacilliIn 1936, in Beyond Psychology, Reich wrote that:
Since everything is antithetically arranged, there must be two different types of single-celled organisms: (a) life-destroying organisms or organisms that form through organic decay, (b) life-promoting organisms that form from inorganic material that comes to life.
This idea led Reich to believe he had found the cause of cancer. He called the life-destroying organisms "T-bacill," with the T standing for Thanatos, Greek for death. He described in The Cancer Biopat ...

 | | | Idea therapy: Encyclopedia II - Positive Disintegration - Applications of the Theory of Positive DisintegrationTherapy:
The theory of positive disintegration has an extremely broad scope and has implications for many areas. One central application applies to psychological and psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. Dabrowski advocated a comprehensive, multidimensional diagnosis of the person's situation, including symptoms and developmental potentials. If the disintegration appears to fit into a developmental context, then the person is educated in the theory and encouraged to take a developmental view of his or her situation and experiences.
