Hypnosis: Hypnosis is like a daydream state. You are awake and aware but are very relaxed with your attention focused on a specific thought or image. Second, you always have control. If the hypnotist told you to rob a bank you would just say, “No” and open your eyes. You would not rob the bank. Of course, if you really wanted to rob a bank anyway, then you would follow the suggestion to do so. The point is that it is you, not the hypnotist, who makes hypnosis work or not work

Stage Hypnosis: The use of hypnosis (or an imitation of hypnosis) for the purpose of entertainment. Although there are some similarities with the professional use of hypnosis to help people make changes in their lives, the differences far outweigh the similarities and have given many people a completely false impression as to the nature of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. As a result, hypnotherapists need to spend time with clients exploding the myths that surround hypnosis as a result of such shows.

Widely used by surgeons, dentists, and psychotherapists to relieve anxiety or as an anesthetic. Used to relax a patient, reduce resistance to therapy, facilitate memory, to address stopping smoking, eating less, or fighting fears.

State of consciousness in which the conscious mind has stepped aside, allowing the subconscious mind to accept outer stimuli input as received, without any decisions being made regarding the material

HYPNOSIS/HYPNOTHERAPY

A state in which the practitioner has accessed the subconscious mind in order to address the condition that influences a particular activity or attitude. It may be regarded as a trance-like state, which is artificially produced. This state allows the subject to bypass the limitations of dealing with and healing anything which has been suppressed, repressed, and in many situations, unresolved elements from previous lives (past life recall). The subject is susceptible to suggestions by the practitioner, to help the subject heal, even the most traumatic of conditions.
