While no direct reference is made to the Incas, the Emperor, Sun Symbols (signifying sun worship), architecture, fountains, road/bridge system, and llamas as beast of burden are all indicative of the Incan Empire. Also, the Empire's name is Kuzco, an alternate spelling of Cuzco or Cusco and the other main character, a wise farmer, is named Pacha, short for Pachacuti.
