A renewed interest in Christian Holiness began among Methodists in the 19th Century. They rediscovered John Wesley’s doctrine of Christian Perfection. Holiness movement: The Christ of the New Age Movement Ð Part II

"Who do you say I am?" (Luke 9:20, NIV) The question was first asked of Peter by Christ nineteen centuries ago, and has continued since then to the present day to be the litmus test of spiritual authenticity. Perhaps never in the history of the Christian church has this question been more relevant than it is today. One reason for this is that New Agers have taken the New Testament sculpture (if you will) of Christ, crafted an esoteric/mystical chisel, and hammered away at this sculpture until a completely new image has been formed.

Holiness movement: Encyclopedia II - Conservative Holiness Movement - History

The Conservative Holiness Movement is an outgrowth of the original holiness movement and is often referred to as one in the same. However, the Conservative Holiness Movement traces its beginnings to the establishment of the Inter-church Holiness Convention (IHC) in 1952. The convention was established as a means of uniting the conservative bodies of the holiness movement for edification and support. During the early 1950s, there were significant societal changes taking place in America. The Post-World War II era b ...

Holiness movement: Encyclopedia II - Conservative Holiness Movement - Distinctives

The movement itself is somewhat isolated from other "mainline" holiness groups due to its stance on holy living (dress, fashion, and entertainment). Although in recent years, common ground has been sought to make the movement more effective in this present age by focusing on evangelical outreach. Over the years with society changing so rapidly in America, the Conservative Holiness Movement has largely been successful at remaining unchanged in a changing world. However, concerns have risen over its lifespan in a society that con ...

Holiness movement: Encyclopedia II - Conservative Holiness Movement - Doctrine

The doctrine of the Conservative Holiness Movement varies from group to group; however, the common thread between them is the belief that the carnal nature (or sin nature, depravity) can be cleansed (eradicated) through faith by the power of the Holy Spirit by one who has received salvation from God through the confession of sin, repentance and faith (See also holiness movement). Holiness movement: Encyclopedia - Church of God Anderson

The Church of God (Anderson) is a non-denominational, Holiness movement believing group of Christians with roots in Wesleyan pietism and also in the anabaptist tradition. Perhaps its most distinctive feature is that there is no formal membership, since the movement believes that belief in Christ makes one a member. Similarly, there is no formal creed other than the Bible. Accordingly, there is much official room for disagreement, even though the movement's culture is strongly rooted in Wesleyan holiness theology. Cu ...
