Mantra:

A word or phrase which has a sacred meaning, and is often repeated over and over with a view to achieving greater spiritual understanding and growth. Often a mantra will be a phrase in Sanskrit, or the name of a Hindu deity such as Krishna or Shiva. An example of a mantra is:" Om Namaha Shivaya"..

Gayatri Mantra:

A 24-syllable mantra (hymn) in the Hindu tradition, addressed to the sun for mental illumination and spiritual growth. Also a mantra for protection. Conventionally, contains three stanzas with a fourth (esoteric) stanza normally not made public.
