Yoga

The word "Yoga" has two meanings, each of which go some way to explaining it.

The Sanskrit root yuj means to yoke or to bind, it also means union or communion with the will of the spirit (Paramatma or God). Yoga is a practice by which the mind, body and spirit can be focussed upon and unified with the spirit of the universe.

Yoga is about balance, harmony and moderation and the practice of Yoga consists of mental exercise, physical exercise and even guidance on diet and living. Yoga is the ultimate embodiment of the "Mind Body Soul - Whole" philosphy.

originated in India where the search for enlightenment and unity with the divine will was central to the culture, yet it has seen a resurgence in recent decades even in the more secular western world.

YOGA

Means union, or the yoking together of body and spirit. It is one of the more ancient methods of healing and of raising consciousness. It is a powerful tool to attain illumination, and like India herself (from whence this comes), there are many levels of expression. Yoga is a general term for many different types of practices.

The West is already familiar with Hatha Yoga, the practice of physical postures. However, there are more: Kriya Yoga includes breathing techniques, Tantric Yoga recognizes and aligns with the sexual energy, in the most profound awareness that sexual and spiritual are one, Bhatkti Yoga accentuates the path of devotion, Raja Yoga or the Royal Path, Kundalini Yoga also uses breathing techniques, and is concerned with the sacred energy of the spine, and so on. In each one, there is a profound technique of ancient knowledge, which can help you find what you are seeking on your life path.

Shabda Yoga is a means of dissolving blockages, increasing vitality, and merging with the divine energy of the cosmos. The Sanskrit word shabda literally means sound.

Kali Yoga: means of opening all of one's chakras and realizing one's greatest potential. Its theory posits a source of Shakti.

Prana Yoga: Form of yoga taught by Jeffrey Migdow, M.D. Its theory posits prana (life force or universal energy) and, chakras (energy centers in the emotional body through which the universal life force flows into the physical body.).

Christian Yoga: Wholistic modality promoted by the Institute of Wholistic Studies (at Our Lady of Lourdes Wellness Center), in Collingswood, New Jersey. it is a blending of body, mind, and spirit, and a process of releasing mental and physical limitations that hinder access to the Divine. Christian Yoga encompasses breathwork, meditation, and wholistic prayer.

chakra yoga: Combination of focused hatha yoga, sounding techniques, and visualization advanced by Jason Kanter. One of its principles is that each of seven chakras (wheels of consciousness) corresponds to a major aspect of the psyche. The design of the method is to maximize one's ability to use vital life energies for healing and integration.
