The disease had been inherited from his great-grandmother (Queen Victoria). Rasputin was regarded as the last resort of the desperate Tsar and Tsarina. They had tried everywhere to find a cure for their son and in 1905 asked the charismatic peasant healer for help. He was said to possess the ability to heal through prayer, and he was indeed able to give the boy some relief. Skeptics have claimed that he did so by hypnosis, though du ...

| | | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Deryni - Genetic Basis of Deryni PowerIt is clear from the books that Deryniness is inherited; if one's parents were Deryni, one will be Deryni him/herself, and contrariwise, if one's parents were human, one will be only human. However, humans and Deryni often interbreed, and half-Deryni people are known to be able to wield a not inconsiderable amount of power.
In an epilogue to the book High Deryni, the author sets forth one possible theory explaining the genetic basis of Deryni heredity. In the book The Quest For Saint Camber, some characters encounter bli ...

| | | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Ancient Egyptian medicine - Sources of InformationUntil the 19th century, the main sources of information regarding ancient Egyptian medicine were the writers from a later period of antiquity. Homer, writing in the Odyssey (c. 800 BC) remarked: "In Egypt, the men are more skilled in medicine than any of human kind". The Greek historian Herodotus visited Egypt around 440 BC and wrote extensively of his observations of their medicinal practices. Pliny the Elder also wrote favorably of them in historical review. Sounding the body in SOUNDING THE BODY: a diagnostic and therapeutic technique used in sound healing. Sound healers read a patients body by singing a series of tones and listening for imbalances in the natural frequencies of the body or its energy fields. Imbalances are said to be indicated by changes in the tone of the healers voice. To correct a problem, the sound healer applies sound to the patients body by singing certain tones near the affected organ, or by applying tuning forks or electronic vibratory instruments to the body. | | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Grigori Rasputin - Assassination beliefsThe legends recounting the death of Rasputin are perhaps even more bizarre than his strange life. Having decided that Rasputin's influence over the Tsarina made him too dangerous to the Empire, a group of nobles apparently lured Rasputin to the palace of their ringleader, Prince Felix Yusupov, where they served him cakes and red wine laced with measured amounts of cyanide. According to the legend, Rasputin was not affected (The amount of cyanide, it is rumoured was enough to kill six men). Determined to finish the job, Yusupov went upstairs, ...

| | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Grigori Rasputin - ReputationThe contemporary press, as well as sensationalist articles and books published in the 1920s and 1930s (one of them even by Yussoupov), turned the charismatic peasant into something of a 20th century folk belief. To Westerners, Rasputin became the embodiment of purported Russian backwardness, superstition, irrationality and licentiousness, and an object of sensational interest; to the Russian Communists, he represented all that was evil in the old regime and had been overcome in the revolution. Yet to some Russians, he remained a symbol of th ...

| | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Grigori Rasputin - Name meaningThe name Rasputin in Russian does not mean "licentious," as is often claimed. There is, however, a very similar Russian adjective rasputny (распу́тный) which does mean "licentious" and the corresponding noun rasputnik. There is no definite explanation of the origin of this not uncommon surname which does not have a "disgraceful" meaning, as the contemporary Russian writer Valentin Rasputin would be quick to explain. There are at least two options for the root of the word. One of them is "put' ," which me ...

| | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Grigori Rasputin - The latest forensic and historical evidenceThe details of the assassination given by Felix Yusupov have never stood up to close examination. The statement given to the Petrograd police on 16 December; the account he gave whilst in exile in the Crimea in 1917; his 1927 book, and the accounts given under oath to libel juries in 1934 and 1965. No two accounts were entirely identical. Until recently, lack of proof has ruled out any other credible evidence-based theories.
According to the unpublished 1916 autopsy report by Professor Kossorotov and subsequent reviews by Dr Vladimir ...

| | | | Healer: Encyclopedia II - Grigori Rasputin - Prediction of disasterOn the night of his murder, Rasputin said to Yussoupov, "The aristocrats can't get used to the idea that a humble peasant should be welcome at the Imperial Palace. They are consumed with envy and fury. But I'm not afraid of them. They can't do anything to me. I'm protected against ill fortune. There have been several attempts on my life but the Lord has always frustrated these plots. Disaster will come to anyone who lifts a finger against me."
Within three months Nicholas II and the Romanov dynasty were overthrown; within 19 months the Tsar and all his family had been executed. All three ...
