The Maya Haab calendar is a 365-day solar calendar whose dates indicate the position of the Sun at noon relative to the zenith over the Yucatan peninsula. Most of the year, the Sun passes south of the zenith, but during a portion of the year it passes to the north. The foundation of the agrarian calendar, the Haab month names are based on the seasons and agricultural events. It is composed of nineteen 'months'. Neither the Tzolkin nor the Haab system numbered the years. The combination of a Tzolkin date and a Haab date was enough to identify a date to most people's satisfaction, as such a combination didn't occur again for another 52 years, well above life expectancy.
