ARTICLES RELATED TO Gyana Yoga | | | | Gyana Yoga: Gyana Yoga - Path of Knowledge Gyana Yoga is the spiritual path of 'knowledge'. It aims at realising the Supreme Spirit through deep enquiry and constant contemplation upon the eternal truths. In Gyana Yoga, you will endeavour to achieve enlightenment through the study of sacred books of wisdom and truth. Normally, people who are very well versed in religious and other scriptures (Scriptural scholars) are considered 'gyaan yogis'. But it is important to note that if knowledge is not balanced with devotion to God, then it will carry the danger of developing arrogance and one-sidedness. Love sweetens our understanding just as knowledge sharpens and directs our love. Love that is uncontrolled by knowledge can be much like a hose that is turned on and then left without a guiding hand; it neighs and just gushes forth making it impossible to use it effectively. | | | Gyana Yoga: Beyond Consciousnes - Sankalpa Yoga
Sankalpa Yoga is 'reso-will', the power that is born of resolve, will and determination. This esoteric yogic science was widely practised 5,000 years ago. Sankalpa Yoga is the science of creation. Like everything in nature, gyana (knowledge) comes through sankalpa. Sankalpa Yoga does not belong to anyone in particular, nor is it registered by any organisation. It belongs to all those who want to practise it. There is no one to command you, no bondage, no milestones. (See also: Sankalpa Yoga, Yoga, Yoga and Health, Yoga Systems, Yoga Positions)

 | | | Gyana Yoga: Reach for the Rays Of Truth Within - About Guru Very few recognise the importance of seeking out a guru whom they can look to for guidance. Guru is not God but God is guru because the guru leads the disciple from darkness to light. God encompasses both light and darkness; He is formless, omnipotent, immovable, and immortal. The guru is a glass of water from the ocean called God. An ideal guru-shishya relationship would be one of friendship and the student should feel free to question his teacher. Both are united by unconditional love, in a relationship that transcends the physical, mental, emotional and the intellectual involvement. Such a relationship has the capacity to weather any storm. | | | Gyana Yoga: Gita Was Tilak's Spiritual Anchor Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak was a freedom fighter whose convictions stemmed from a deep and intricate understanding of Indian culture. He wrote a scholarly commentary on the Bhagavad Gita in his magnum opus, Gita-Rahasya and he lived its message in every sphere of his life. As a child, Tilak was often told by some of his elders that the religious and philosophic life was incompatible with humdrum everyday existence. The only path to moksha or liberation, the highest attainable goal, was the renunciation of desires and material attachments, they said: "One could not serve two masters, the world and God." | | | Gyana Yoga: Guru, God and Self are Synonymous Indian culture has always held the guru in high esteem. Having a master was not just considered a matter of pride, but it was mandatory to have a guru. Not having a master was looked down upon as being an orphan, being poor and a sign of misfortune. The word anatha in Sanskrit means one without a master. An acharya (teacher) gives shiksha, which means knowledge; Guru gives diksha, which means heightened awareness. | | | Gyana Yoga: Encyclopedia II - Guru - Guru in HinduismThe importance of finding a guru who can impart transcendental knowledge (vidya) is one of the tenets of Hinduism. One of the main Hindu texts, the Bhagavad Gita, is a dialogue between God in the form of Krishna and Arjuna a nobleman. Not only does their dialogue outlines many of the ideals of Hinduism, but the discussion and relationship between the two considered to be an expression of the ideal Guru/disciple relationship. In the Gita itself, Krishna speaks of the importance of finding a guru to Arjuna:
