 | | | Gustavo Nery: Encyclopedia II - Sport Club Corinthians Paulista - The Club in 2004-2005The club's situation in early 2004 was one the most difficult in its history. Sport Club Corinthians Paulista - The Mule's Skull.
There is a popular superstition in Brazil (of probable African origin) saying that a place can be made unwholesome or cursed by burying a mule's skull in it. In 1976, after 22 years of no success, Corinthians was startled by the "revelation" that a mule's skull had been found buried exactly in the midfield of Parque São Jorge during the replacement of the grass. The superstitious fans believed that the curse had ended (although no record of the finding subsist). ...

 | | | Gustavo Nery: Encyclopedia II - Campeonato Brasileiro 2005 - Champion and ContendersPre-season favorites Corinthians captured their fourth national championship edition despite a turbulent early season and a campaign that went through 3 different head coaches. Key players Carlos Tévez, Carlos Alberto, Roger and Gustavo Nery led the team to a result of 81 points in 42 games. Despite early season turmoil, Corinthians benefited from being one of the few teams in Brazil who could afford to maintain their talent base throughout the season without having to sell key players. The legitimacy of their title was disputed late in the ...
