Goa: Encyclopedia II - Goa trance music - History

The music has its roots in the popularity of the Goa state in India in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a hippie mecca, although the actual Goa trance style did not appear until early 1990s. As the tourist influx tapered off in the 1970s and 1980s, however, a core group remained in Goa, concentrating on developments in music along with other pursuits such as yoga and recreational drug use. The music that would eventually be known as Goa trance did not evolve from one single genre, but was inspired mainly by Industrial music/EBM like Front L ...

Most Goa'uld like to take the name of a classical god from Earth, especially those of ancient Egypt, but not the Norse or Aztec gods (whose identities were assumed by other alien races), nor has any known Goa'uld ever used a name from the Judeo-Christian or Muslim faiths, though one (Sokar) pretended to be Satan to a group of medieval Christians. In fact, the term Goa'uld means "Children of the Gods". There is still debate as to whether the Goa'uld assumed the names of Egyptian gods already in existence or whether Egyptian mythology stems fr ...

In the state of Goa, Goa trance parties can take place in unusual locations such as on a beach, in a desert or in the middle of the forest, although it is not uncommon for them to be held in conventional locations like clubs. Goa: Encyclopedia II - Goa trance music - The sound of Goa trance

Goa is essentially "dance-trance" music (it was referred to as "Trance Dance" in its formative years), and as such has an energetic beat, almost always in 4/4 and often going into 16th or 32nd notes, especially for the pumping basslines. It is also noted for switching to a 12/8 beat with the same tempo during some parts of the song. A typical track will generally build up to a much more energetic movement in the second half then taper off fairly quickly toward the end. The BPM typically lies in the 130 - 150 range, making goa trance faster t ...

Goa: Encyclopedia II - History of Goa - Ancient History

Mahabharata refers to Goa as Goparashtra, ‘a nation of cowherds or of nomadic tribes’. Parshuram, the Hindu god, according to legend, flung his arrow on the coast and made the waters recede, thus founding the Konkan. The Southern Konkan was called Govarashtra. In ancient Indian texts in Sanskrit she is also known as Gopakapuri or Gapakapattana. This only corroborates the idea that Goa was a very prosperous State, since cattle was the criterion of wealth. The name Gomant for Goa also occurs in the said Indian epic Mahabharata and in the ...
