The idea to use a live longhorn as the university's mascot is attributed to UT alumnus Stephen Pinckney in 1916. Pinckney gathered 4 from other alumni to purchase a steer in the Texas Panhandle, which they originally named "Bo" and which they shipped to Austin. Bevo mascot - Origin of a name
Adolph Sylvester (Bud) Herseth, (born July 25, 1921 in Lake Park, MN), was principal trumpet in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1948 until 2001. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest trumpeters of his generation. He was a student of Boston Symphony Orchestra trumpeters Marcel LaFosse (second trumpet) and Georges Mager (principal trumpet) at the New England Conservatory of Music
