Gazing: Encyclopedia II - Gaze - Forms of gaze

The gaze can be characterized by who is doing the looking: the spectator's gaze: the spectator who is viewing the text. This is often us, the audience of a certain text, intra-diegetic gaze, where one person depicted in the text who is looking at another person or object in the text, such as another character looking at another, extra-diegetic gaze, where the person depicted in the text looks at the spectator, such as an aside, or an acknowledgement of the fourth wall, or the camera's gaze, which is the gaze of the ...

Gazing: Encyclopedia II - Gaze - Effects of gaze
Gazing and seeing someone gaze upon another provides us with a lot of information about our relationship to the subjects, or the relationships between the subjects upon whom we gaze, or the situation in which the subjects are doing the gazing. The mutuality of the gaze can reflect power structure, or the nature of a relationship between the subjects, as proposed by Catherine Lutz and Jane Collins, where this "tell[s] us who has the right and/or need to look at whom". Gazing can often reflect emotion without speech - in Western culture, continued staring upon another c ...

Gazing: Techniques In Contemplation

As a common precursor, when you sit down to practice exercises in concentration and contemplation, precede your sessions with a prayer to God or Guru, and invoke their presence and Grace.

Smile and fill your heart with a recollection of joy and happiness that you may have experienced in the past. Feel God's light suffusing and relaxing the entire body, and gently, rhythmically, slow down the process of breathing. It always helps to keep your eyes shut and focused on the area of the third eye. Closing the eyes ensures stillness of the mind. The attention should always be turned inward, that is, we should try and lose awareness of our bodies and feel the consciousness being sucked into the vacuum-like depths of the eternity.

Gazing: Encyclopedia - Crystal gazing

Crystallomancy, or crystal gazing, is a method of divination of distant or future events by gazing into a crystal or a ball of polished rock crystal. In popular media, a crystal ball is often used. Among objects used are a pool of ink in the hand (Egypt), the liver of an animal (tribes of the North-West Indian frontier), a hole filled with water (Polynesia), quartz crystals (the Apaches and the Euahlayi tribe of New South Wales), a smooth slab of polished black stone (the Huille-che of South America), water in a vessel ( ...

This is an article from the Swedish magazine Hlsa (Health) about Anette Carlstrm, who just in time for her birthday in August last year went to the Oneness Festival and the World University.

Gazing: Should I meditate with my eyes open or with my eyes closed?

Should I meditate with my eyes open or with my eyes closed?

Different traditions give different answers. Closing your eyes may contribute to drowsiness and sleepiness--if that's the case for you then try opening them a little. Opening your eyes may be distracting. If that's the case try closing your eyes or direct your gaze on a blank wall (Zen-style).

Gazing: Shaktipat Initiation - Awakening the Kundalini

Shaktipat Initiation - Awakening the Kundalini

Kundalini can be awakened by attaining perfection of certain hatha yoga postures called asanas, by certain breathing exercises aimed at controlling the breath called pranayama, by God's grace, by meditation or by intense devotion.

Another technique of great importance is Shaktipat, the transmission of energy. A powerful yogi can transmit energy to an aspirant and awaken the Kundalini. This is accomplished in one of four ways: by touch, gaze, sound or thought.

Gazing: Tolerance And Tranquility Go Together

It was a beautiful night. Poets lay awake, drawing inspiration from the star-spangled sky. Lovers drew closer, gazing at the moon. The elderly came out to feel the cool breeze. Children were playing in the moonlight.

One man watched all this with increasing despair. He was a thief. If nobody slept, how was he to do what he wanted to do? The entire community was awake. He waited endlessly. Somehow the people of this town were just not sleepy that night.

Gazing: Paint Your Child's World With Cheer

In my travels to different countries, it is always the children, filled with energy and hope, who leave me with the most lasting impression. When I gaze into their deep, clear eyes, I find myself profoundly encouraged. For in the deepest reaches of children's eyes shines the light of purpose, a natural sense of responsibility for the future of our planet.

Gazing: Osho Gourishankar Meditation

This meditation is a unique combination of breathing, looking, letting go and witnessing. Looking at the light with soft gaze is so relaxing, your fragmented energies are integrated.

This technique, for the night time, consists of four stages of fifteen minutes each. The first two stages are a preparation for the spontaneous Latihan (Latihan is a name of eastern meditation which means moving the body effortlessly in a "let go " state) of the third stage.

If the breathing is done correctly in the first stage, the carbon dioxide formed in the bloodstream will make you feel as high as the Himalayan peak, Gourishankar.

Gazing: Encyclopedia - Evil eye

The evil eye is a widely distributed element of folklore or superstition: a belief that some people, often women seen as witches, can bestow a curse on victims by the malevolent gaze of their magical eye. The effects on victims vary; some have them afflicted with bad luck of various sorts. Others believe the evil eye has even more baleful powers, that it can cause disease, wasting away, and even death. Some cultures hold that the evil eye is an involuntary jinx that is cast unintentionally by people unlucky to be cursed with th ...

Gazing: Encyclopedia - Trataka

Trataka ( in Sanskrit to look, or to gaze ) is the practice of staring at some external object. It is used in yoga as a way of developing concentration, strenghtening the eyes, and stimulating the Ajna chakra. In the first stage of the practice, the yogi fixes his attention on a symbol or yantra, such as the 'Ohm' symbol, a black dot, or the image of some deity, and stares at it, paying attention to each thought and feeling as it arises, and letting them go, so that the mind is completely absorbed in the symbol. The practice continues until the eyes begin to water ...

The Christ Falling on the Way to Calvary, also known as Sicilia's Spasimo, is a painting of the Italian High Renaissance master Raphael, circa 1516-1517.
