Fulham: Encyclopedia II - Bristol City F.C. - History

The club was founded in 1897, when Bristol South End F.C. turned professional and changed its name to Bristol City. In 1900 the club merged with local rival Bedminster F.C., which had been founded as Southville in 1887. The side joined the Football League in 1901. They first entered Division 1 in 1906 as Division 2 champions, and as newcomers became known as the "Bristol Babes", a nickname that would last into the thirties. They were runners-up in their first season in the top flight, but couldn't match this performance again, and were relegated in 1911 ...

The club was formed in 1863 as the Bradford Rugby Club, playing rugby union. They then became founder members of the Northern Rugby Football Union playing rugby league in 1895, winning the Championship in 1903-04 and the Challenge Cup in 1905-06. Fulham: Encyclopedia II - Orpington - History

The remains of Crofton Roman Villa are open to the public, on Crofton Road, close to Orpington railway station. Orpington - Parish Church. The Parish Church, "All Saints", stands upon pre-Norman foundations. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, it is Early English in style, but some Saxon work is visible. It was endowed by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1173. The tower and steeple were damaged by a storm in 1771. The rebuilt steeple was struck by lightning in 1809, and it was not replaced. The church was greatly enlarged in 1957.
