| ARTICLES RELATED TO Frightened | | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - Trophonius - Trophonius in cultPausanias, in his account of Boeotia (9.39), relates many details about the cult of Trophonius. Whoever desired to consult the oracle would live in a designated house for a period of days, bathing in the river Herkyna and living on sacrificial meat. He would then sacrifice, by day, to a series of gods, including Kronos, Apollo, Zeus the king, Hera the Charioteer, and Demeter-Europa. At night, he would a black victim into a pit sacred to Agamedes, drink from two rivers called Lethe and Mnemosyne, and then descend into a cave. Here, most consultees were frightened out of their wits, a ...

| | | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - Jack Kevorkian - ArtworkKevorkian enrolled in an adult education oil painting course in Pontiac, Michigan in the 1960s. His art combined his knowledge of human anatomy with his fascination with death. Michael Betzold described the 18 canvases he created in this course as "bold and strident, as critical and unforgiving, as ponted and dramatic as Kevorkian's own fighting words. They are strikingly well executed — stark and surreal — and frightening, demented and/or hilarious, depending on one's point of view." Although the 18 original canvases have been lost, Kevorkian returned to his art in the 90s to ...

| | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - Speech balloon - FontsThe cartoonist may or may not draw in all the individual letters in the balloons by hand. An alternative is to use a computer, a technique universal in translated manga. Either way, the font style used is almost an industry wide constant: all capitals in a rounded typeface similar to Comic Sans. Exceptions that are sometimes found are:
The "c" in a surname of Scottish origin starting with "Mc".
To indicate a frightened or quiet manner of speech.
An interjection such as "er", "um", etc.
In a few comics (for example the English language version of Tintin), uppercase and lowercase ...

| | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - History of Kent - Medieval KentFollowing the invasion of William the Conqueror the people of Kent adopted the motto Invicta meaning undefeated and claiming (quite wrongly) that they had frightened the Normans away, presumably in an attempt to defame the people of Hastings in neighbouring Sussex.
During the medieval period, Kent produced several rebellions including the Peasants' Revolt led by Wat Tyler and later, Jack Cade's rebellion of 1450. Thomas Wyatt led an army into London from Kent in 1553, against Mary I. Canterbury became a great pilgrimage site fo ...

| | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - Battle of Crécy - The battleThe French army, commanded by Philip VI, was much more disorganized, due to overconfidence on the part of his knights. Philip stationed his Genoese mercenary crossbowmen in the front line, with the cavalry in the back.
The first attack was from the crossbowmen, who launched a shower of volleys with the purpose of disorganizing and frightening the English infantry. This first move was accompanied by the sound of musical instruments, brought by Philip VI to scare the enemy. But the crossbowmen would prove completely useless. With a firi ...

These healings not only include those of bodies that appear ill, but also of minds which think they are frightened, alone, in ...

| | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - Freddie Prinze - After his deathThe death, initially ruled a suicide, was years later re-ruled an "accidental shooting due to the influence of Quaaludes"; his mother led the effort to have the cause of death reworded. This change was due in large part to the fact that Prinze had a history of playing with guns, faking suicide attempts to frighten his friends to his amusement. He had left a note stating that the decision to take his life was his alone, but because he pulled the trigger in the presence of a witness, something suicides rarely do, it gave enough weight to the argument that he really ...

| | | | Frightened: Encyclopedia II - Nerpa - ForagingThe Nerpa’s main food source is Golomyanka, a type of bull head that lives only in Lake Baikal. Nerpas eat more than half of the annual produced biomass of Golomyanka, some 64,000 tons. (Pastukhov) They feed mainly at night, when the fish come within 100 meters of the surface. They feed with short, 10-20 minute dives, although this is hardly the extent of their abilities. (Harrold, 2002) Nerpas have two liters more blood than any other seal of their size and can stay underwater for up to 70 minutes if they are frightened or need to escape ...

JUNG'S NIGHTMARE JUNG'S NIGHTMARE Jung dreamed, at age 4, of a great tower on a throne. It seemed to be made of skin and the top of it was rounded with a singly eye staring upward. He found this quite frightening. In later life, when he broke with Freud he admitted that he felt that mans needs were much greater than sex. He felt that sex was merely one powerful force amongst others. Freud begged Jung never to abandon the sexual basis of neurosis but that it must stand as a bulwark. "Against what?", asked Jung. "Against the occult.", whispered Freud. Jungs psychological theory can be summed up in this statement: the goal of psychic development is the self - There is no linear evolution. There is only a circumambulation of the self. Everything points to the center. (See also: JUNG'S NIGHTMARE, Magick, Mysticism, Mysticism Dictionary, Body Mind and Soul, )
