| ARTICLES RELATED TO Freedom | | | | Freedom: The Core Values of Humanity
Morality is neither an abstraction nor many-complexioned. There cannot be different sets of morality for politicians, business persons and bureaucrats. If such a difference is being accepted by most of us today, it is because we have been indifferent to the progressive deterioration of moral and ethical standards in the social order over the last half century. Any moral code has to be applicable to all. "I never did, or countenanced, in public life", said Jefferson, "a single act inconsistent with the strictest good faith, having never believed there was one code of morality for a public and another for a private man".

| | | | Freedom: Hindu Philosophy - The YogaThe word Yoga
comes from the root Yuj
which means to join.
Yoga is restraint of the activities of the mind, and is the union of the
individual soul with the Supreme Soul.
Hiranyagarbha is
the founder of the Yoga system. The Yoga founded by Patanjali Maharshi is a
branch or supplement of the Sankhya. It has its own charm for students of a
mystic temperament and of a contemplative type. It claims greater orthodoxy
than the Sankhya proper by directly acknowledging the existence of a Supreme
Being (Isvara).

| | | | Freedom: Information in the Holographic
UniverseHolographic Universe
Theoretical results about
black holes suggest that the universe could be like a gigantic hologram.
An
astonishing theory called the holographic principle holds that the universe is
like a hologram: just as a trick of light allows a fully three-dimensional
image to be recorded on a flat piece of film, our seemingly three-dimensional
universe could be completely equivalent to alternative quantum fields and
physical laws "painted" on a distant, vast surface.

| | | | Freedom: Goodness, a Lighter State of Being
Who is a good human being? Charles Dickens said people were good and bad. But he couldn"t figure out what made them that way. Unfortunately, Dickens missed - by about 50 years - the revolution in psychology brought about by Sigmund Freud. Freud believed an individual'spersonality was shaped in his infancy, with later influences having only a negligible impact. However, Freud erred in focusing on natural instincts to the exclusion of social structures.

| | | | Freedom: The Ace Of Swords - Seizing The Power Of DiscernmentHistorically,
the sword was viewed as a sacred ritual object signifying bravery and power.
The flaming sword of Boddhisatva procured knowledge and freedom from desire
while the sword of Vishnu represented pure knowledge and the destruction of
ignorance. A knight's sword was two-edged - one to strike down infidels, the
other thieves and murderers; the point represented obedience. Traditional
Christianity and chivalry viewed it as a "luminous tool for chivalrous
tasks" with a power that united spirit and matter - the binding of heaven
and earth.

| | | | | Freedom: Self-awareness Can Bring Happiness
The very concept of God has given rise to many theological disputes and religious warfare. In fact, God is an enduring in-depth experience in the midst of ever-changing mental and sensate experiences - God is the inexhaustible source of love, harmony and peace. Happiness is sought by everyone. But the search is not focused in the right direction. We waste precious time seeking happiness in the mirage of objects, places and people; in relationships and ideologies; in possessions and wanton indulgences.

| | | | Freedom: Encyclopedia II - Fannie Lou Hamer - Hamer at the Democratic National ConventionIn the summer of 1964, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, or "Freedom Democrats" for short, was organized with the purpose of challenging Mississippi's all-white and anti-civil rights delegation to the Democratic National Convention of that year as not representative of all Mississippians. Hamer was elected Vice-Chair. The Freedom Democrats' efforts drew national attention to the plight of African-Americans in Mississippi, and represented a challenge to President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for ...

| | | | Freedom: Encyclopedia II - Democracy - Essential elements of a democracyTrue democracy as a form of government always has the following characteristics:
there is constrained freedom to further the public good. Stated in negative terms, limits-sometimes vigorous ones-are essential to ensure that not anything goes (e.g., murdering people with handguns). Stated in positive terms, infinite freedom is of the essence to explore within, but not exceed, the boundaries defined by the edge of chaos (e.g., populist revolutions to identify, advocate for, and create consensus around new forms of government that ...

| | | | Freedom: Encyclopedia II - Predestination - Predestination in ChristianityThe "doctrine of predestination" usually refers to Christian teaching concerning the ultimate implications of the predestination idea: the final destiny of men and of angels. As such, discussion of predestination concerns the extent to which salvation and damnation are the issue of God's decisions before time, and the extent to which these are matters decided by men and angels for themselves. The more immediate application of the doctrine of predestination concerns the extent to which people and nations are confined by God to particul ...

| | | | Freedom: Why I'm A Hindu, And Other Thoughts
I am a Hindu because I was born in a Hindu home. The Hindu way of life appeals to me because it gives me freedom to think and act. It does not bind me to rigid codes or to some particular book, but only requires that I try to follow the first two parts of the eight-fold ashtanga yoga, namely, yama or abstentions and niyama or observances, expecting me to do nothing more than being a good member of society. Practice of the next six parts is optional.

Indian National Congress - Freedom Era - Constitution.
The last series of political issues that the Congress Party of the Independence era contributed to was the creation of the Constitution of India and working the Constituent Assembly of India.
In the Assembly and Constitution debates, the Congress attitude was marked by inclusiveness and liberalism. The Government appointed some prominent Indians who were Raj loyalists and liberals to important offices, and did not adopt any punitive control over the Indian civil servants who h ...

| | | | | Freedom: Encyclopedia II - Thomas Jefferson - Personal characteristics and views
Thomas Jefferson - Appearance and temperament.
Jefferson was six feet, two-and-one-half inches (189 cm) in height, large-boned, slender, erect and sinewy. He had angular features, very poor posture, a very ruddy complexion, strawberry blonde hair and hazel-flecked, grey eyes. In later years he was negligent in dress and loose in bearing.
There was grace, nevertheless, in his manners; and his frank and earnest address, his quick sympathy (though he seemed cold to strangers), and his vivacious, desultory, in ...

| | | | | Freedom: Encyclopedia II - Black Panther Party - Formation and foundationsThe core of the organization at its inception in 1966 were close friends Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, and Richard Aoki in the city of Oakland, California. The three had been witness to a radical ferment in the Bay Area and the United States, taking part in protests against the Vietnam War and having an interest in the American Civil Rights Movement.
Like many people of color of their generation, Newton and Seale had been frustrated by the doctrine of nonviolence as espoused by mainstream civil rights leaders such as the Rev. Dr. Marti ...

In 1774, he wrote A Summary View of the Rights of British America which was intended as instructions for the Virginia delegates to a national congress. The pamphlet was a powerful argument of American terms for a settlement with Britain, helped speed the way to independence, and marked Jefferson as one of the most thoughtful patriot spokesmen.
