Do animals rate in your concerns for this world, when it comes to respect, abuse and misuse? Testing of cosmetics for instance, on animals, and the abuse of animals by neglectful owners.
Personally I see and make no distinction between human, animal, plant, mineral or any other form of consciousness. I think all should be treated with the utmost respect.
I rate the happiness and respect of animals very highly. In fact, in some ways I believe we should be more respectful of them then other humans because we are stewards for animals in our care.
I am a former vegan. After having children (well, during pregnancy), I found my body could not maintain another life on that diet. Now I carefully choose my animal protein to be as cruelty-free as possible.
I don't believe in cruelty to any living thing. I will not buy cosmetics or any beauty products that do any animal testing. At the same time, I really don't believe animals are at the same level as human beings. I know many people fight against medical testing on animals but I don't see how that is avoidable when it comes to finding medications, vaccines and cures for diseases that affect humans.

I definitely have very high animal concerns when it comes to respect, abuse, misuse. I will not buy cosmetics or products that are tested on animals. I belong to quite a few animal rights groups aiming to educate the world on the importance of ending animal cruelty. You won't find me on the side of the road with P.E.T.A. signs being my only clothing but I do feel I'm very active online and in my daily shopping. I volunteer at local shelters and donate products and items my own pets have no use for any longer. I plan to open a no-kill shelter in the very near future.
I try not to rate anything in life, like Essence said we all should be respecting the things that surround us, people as well as animals. If we don't now then what are we teaching our kids?

I would agree I don't rate them higher than other life forms (or non-life forms) but I do think anything not human needs our help to speak for it. If my dog can't tell me I have hurt him I need to take extra care to learn when he hurts and to prevent that from happening.
I was watching a TV show that does polls the other day. The question was "what do people get rid of when it becomes hard to deal with?" The number one answer at 62% was pets.

I'm not trying to be judgemental here, but that number, 62%, blows my mind. I am, what where I come from is considered an "Ellie Mae". Anyone familiar with The Beverly Hillibilly's will know what I'm talking about. OOooppsss......guess I dated myself didn't I? LOL
I can't and won't judge another; we don't ever know what it's like in their shoes, but as a person who has had animals of all kinds all my life, I can't imagine getting rid of a beloved pet, just because they became hard to deal with. To me that would be like getting rid of my child, or my elderly grandmother because the situation of taking care of them was too hard, or a bother.
Sometimes in life people will have to give up a pet for reasons beyond there control, and I'm sure in these cases they do the best they can to find a good home for them, but maybe this 'getting rid of them because it is too hard to deal with' is just a symptom of a deeper dis-ease with humans.
Let's do the best we can to spread the Light of Unconditional Love over this beautiful planet of ours and to all of mankind and every other form of life living on our loving mother Gaia.

I can believe that from seeing what I see every day. I live in a beach resort so there are far more summer people than year-round residents. This seems to happen mostly with cats, but every year there are tons of cats left behind when the summer residents go back to wherever they came from. Feral cats are a real problem in the fall months.
We see that here with cats, and rabbits, and a wealth of other animals. It makes my heart ache.
Essence, what do you think of people sending their elderly parents or grandparents to nursing homes? Do you think this is abandoning them, or is it meeting their needs?
