Tolerance Begins at Home

Just like so many other things, tolerance begins at home. I see people in their every day life having clash after clash with their partners, their nearest and dearest and the people they call friends.

How can we possibly hope for tolerance in the world if people cannot even tolerate the people with whom they live?

That's not necessarily a problem with tolerance really. There is always going to be conflicts between people, it's part of human nature. It's how we handle and deal with conflict that counts.

I find that it is a very interesting thing that happens in the household, the bottled up emotions form the polite world ends up being directed towards a spouse. I find that I need a outlet for the negative emotion, such as exercise and video games. Sometimes are spouses are the only people that will forgive us for the arguments we have with each other.

I disagree. If parents beat children to within an inch of their lives-neglect and abuse them, the very people that they should by nature be driven to protect and care for-then what hope is there that they can ever be more tolerant of others?

You have a point there EternalSearch but what you mentioned is in extreme cases and really isn't the usual trend.
I guess we never really want to tolerate any nonsense from the people we live with because we expect the best from them and are sorely put out when they don't live up to our expectations.
