I am one who believes we have soul mates, not just one possible mate, but many in the world, though we need only find one.
Before I met my husband, I was drifting in love. I'd made a succession of bad choices, and didn't understand why things were not going the way I wanted. I made a choice to undergo a period of celibacy, and during that time seek wisdom and centering. I came across a book, If the Buddha dated, and upon reading it and reflecting I came to understand my problem. I did not respect myself or my own needs enough, and most importantly, I had to love myself genuinely before I could open my heart to loving another. I cannot express how true this was for me but to say about 6 months later I found my husband, and knew from the first time we met he was my soul mate, and that I was spiritually ready to love another.

That is beautiful!
Most people don't come to realize what you have, and I honor your'e discipline and overall awarness of self.
Buddha is one of the greatest men to walk amongst us, redifining the true nature of self through the pratice of selflessness.
I believe we all have a soul mate as well. However, the real trick is finding that soul mate and knowing it when you do. I truly believe I found mine a little over ten years ago on Feb 14th 1998. I honestly would have never believed he was my soul mate if someone had told me this before I met him. He is actually 4 1/2 years younger than me and not at all what I would've imagined my soul mate would be. But, now that we have been together all these years I know without a doubt. I could not ever imagine anyone loving me more or treating me with more genuine respect. We both came from families with similar backgrounds and morals and I do not think I could ever be happier with anyone else. So, in my opinion, we are together because God meant for us to be.
