What are you doing in your community?

I've heard so many people talk about the environment, the poor, the hungry, etc. Many of them are sitting on their duffs TALKING about what should be done. We all need to get off our duffs and be DOING what should be done.

I donate to the local food bank, volunteer for the semi-annual town cleanup crew, clean the beach whenever I go over and help with a local Christmas charity every year. I also make monetary contributions as I am able to various things in my area like the Children's Hospital Fund and the Salvation Army. I wish I could do more since these things are not that much but I am unable financially at this time.

What are you DOING in your communities?

I give to the food shelf, donate used books to the library, volunteer in the school, and my daughter donates part of her allowance to the local Christmas project every year.

Re: What are you doing in your community?

Thank you to Belgarath for this question about accountability.
I think helping our communities begins with taking good care of our selves and being accountable for our actions. I lived most of my life by a creed my grandfather told me – do all the good you can to all the people you can where ever and when ever you can. I have done that but oops – I forgot the piece about “can I” and let my self run down and then had to take time out to heal – rather than be a helper. Now I’m back in a more balanced way. When one can’t carry their own weight so to speak, and given they do have the assets to do that, they become a burden on the “community”. So staying fit and independent is important to more people than ourselves.
I think too people have different lessons and missions on their Earth walk. Being a good parent and raising healthy balanced children is a great asset to community. Being the “blue jay” (the one who shouts out danger) of the community to has its place too. There are countless ways to be a contributing community member.
I know an elder who says he can only deal with his own back yard – however he does consider Canada his back yard. Another I know says work on one thing globally and one thing locally until it’s done.
This experience festival is a community entity too, a fledgling global community and I think joining it and even better participating is a contribution to our collective well being. The action Jonas took and takes is an awesome community contribution.
One of my community actions is the garden project you see attached to my name. Any of you interested, please check it out and plant a seed for your own and or our collective well being and or listen to some of the people on the site who are “giving” to the larger community by taking the time to share from their hearts, thoughts on how to live in balance in this world.

Re: What are you doing in your community?

Thank you Belgarath and also to Lena who started another thread in this vein..

I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. I know for me personally, where I live is only very slowly beginning to awaken. But…..it is happening. Just this past week, I had two very unexpected events with others in this area happen that just blew my mind, very positive things. I don’t believe in proselytizing so what I do, is what “I” as a divine spark of the Universal Mind, (God, to some) came here to do.
First I would like to say, by no means do I think that what I am doing is what everyone else should be doing. It is for each individual to decide for them selves what their part is in this grand drama we call ‘Life on Planet Earth.

The things I list here are only some of the things I practice in an attempt to do my part to make this world a better place and to help with the process of the Shift.

When I meditate, I send out energy for others to receive. Positive energy they can use how they need. As I drive to town to take care of my daily business, I extend my energy field to encompass an area with approximately the radius of a football field and all who pass through it with the message, “Time to Wake Up”.
As I walk through the stores and places of business where I have to go, my higher self speaks to the higher selves of others as we pass with the message, “Time to Wake Up”. When I sense another being in need of Love, Respect, or Recognition…then I send them the energy they require.

I speak to every individual as if they were the ruler of the planet…with total respect. I open doors for those who need the physical assistance, even if it means waiting an extra minute while they slowly make their way to the door.

I give charitably to all individuals and organizations who are striving to make this world a better place as best I can without allowing myself or my family to do without.

I treat this magnificent planet we live on with all the respect due her. She is our Mother and I treat her as such.

These may sound like little, very minor things to some, but if everyone on this planet would only strive to live the best life they can and be the best human they can, just think how much better off the planet would be.

We’re all doing the most and best we can. Doing the jobs we came here to do, and we are heading home……..

Love, Light and Blessings,

Namaste

Re: What are you doing in your community?

At present I donate and volunteer at the food pantry at least once a month. I also donate to local animal shelters on the scale of $100+ in pet food/treats a month. I also volunteer at the senior center to help with the community garden and errands and budget classes. I also spend time helping educate people about the resources available to them to get what they need and help out the community as well.

Re: What are you doing in your community?

Thank you for all the responses. It is wonderful to belong to a community that practices what it preaches, so to speak. I agree with Essence when she(?) said "First I would like to say, by no means do I think that what I am doing is what everyone else should be doing. It is for each individual to decide for them selves what their part is in this grand drama we call ‘Life on Planet Earth"

Re: What are you doing in your community?

I brought my children to the playground this morning. It is a new playground that was just built last week to replace the old worn down one. My daughter found a soda bottle on the ground and was offended that anyone would throw it on the ground of the new playground when there was a trashcan nearby. She picked it up and threw it away herself. I was so proud of her.

Re: What are you doing in your community?

We barely make ends meet so I can't do a whole financially, and I'm disabled so I can't get out there and do anything physical. My husband and I do run a non-profit where all the money goes to ACS. And, we live in the inner city in a very poor neighborhood. When we know a neighbor is struggling, we give them food. They know they don't have to go hungry. These are small things, but it's what we can afford, so it's how we give back.

I have been working on using coupons to purchase items and anything above a reasonable amount for my own use is donated. Its amazing how much free cereal I've gotten this summer, and relish and beans. The best part is the free pet food also donates $1 to a shelter of my choice through the coupon program. My family have been military and emergency services personnel for many years, so volunteering and donating is part of who I am. We have nothing if we do not have each other.
