To know the mind one has to watch its movements very carefully. It helps to observe and know: What/who are our most frequent thoughts based on - your work, your child etc. - What is the most frequent groove in which your mind tends to get stuck - guilt, over-confidence etc. How many of your thoughts are judgmental?
For example, do you think how could he get that assignment when there are so many more sincere people who have failed? Being non-judgmental is to know that there are various points of view to this issue and all of them may be true in some way. How many of your thoughts are atavistic and exist because of your connection to your culture, family or organization? For example: if you organisation is putting sales targets above the quality of customer dealings, do you fall into the pattern against your better sense?
Automatic negative thoughts are like a rubber band. They recoil, however, much they are stretched. These are thoughts based on a low self worth. For example: You call someone and leave a message in his or her absence. When they fail to call back you presume the person does not think you are worthy enough to be called back. The mind is a trickster with immense positive potential. To lead a conscious life as the scriptwriter of your own destiny, it is mandatory to understand your mind and train it to overcome its negative habits, cultivate positive ones and allow its hidden potential to emerge. We have already understood some key points in diagnosing the tendencies of the mind. The next step is to train the mind like you would a naughty yet immensely gifted child. What is essentially required is a neutral witness attitude.
