[ TNN ] When in the midst of intense emotions of rage, hurt and betrayal, just step back and ask yourself - what is it that I am feeling? Identification is followed by substitution. An individual's mind manufactures innumerable thoughts every day. The majority of these are habitual and often negative. A negative thought would basically be one that does not affirm the intrinsic worth of the self and others. Jealousy, resentment, self-doubt, despair are some of the negative thoughts that cross the mind. They could be coming from:
- Ones inner sense of self worth or the lack of it - Family or group consciousness
Collective consciousness since we are all connected. The points to remember while training the mind out of its habitual negative thoughts are: The mind is not you. It is just another instrument of the spark of consciousness within you to cognise, conceptualise and plan. The thoughts churned out by the mind are also not the real you. They are just a product manufactured by an instrument of your awareness. Once a negative thought has been recognised as being habitual, make a note of how many times a day you allow the thought to pass through your consciousness. For example: I am a failure; my stars will not let me succeed; why do I always meet manipulative people? Watch out for such thoughts and grab them the minute you spot them. Maintain a log of the status of the number of such negative thoughts and you will find that awareness will eventually decrease the number.
Negative thoughts are generally based on negative feelings that have no rational basis. Practice viewing one event through many perspectives and choose the most positive perspective to replace your negative thought. For example: 'The planetary positions in my astrological chart are disastrous' could be replaced with 'every planet has positive and negative influences. With my wisdom, efforts and prayers, I am going to unravel the positive influences'.
