I study the ways of the Shaman and practice some of their tradition and dancing to go into a trance like state is a common practice that they do.
I never have, instead I use a drumming CD to reach this state. It must be great to free yourself in that way and just dance!

I practice trance and dance in a trance party or festival, and some called this way of trancending a "modern" shaman ritual, because its kind of the same way that a truth shaman ritual trancendes. With drums, entheogens and a group.

Introduction here is a link about what happend in those partys.

I am sorry for the delay in my response and thank you marina. We have had a family emergency which has required 200% of our time.
Thank you for the link and my blessings to you.

My favorite practice is listening to solfeggio tones with meditative music. I find the brainwave frequencies very therapeutic in bringing my whole being into harmony. I have them on my computer as well as my ipod so I can listen while I do other things. They make me feel very mellow

Re: Start here! - My favourite practice!

I would say Yoga is a definite favorite. I in recent past have suffered from lower lumbar pain. Yoga helps stretch our everything and keep the pain away. Of course my Magick practice is Chaos. Its been a personal journey not really having many around who truely practice at an advanced level. My grandmother was my guide and mentor. Most people think Chaos is new but many Mystics use this form of magick in some sence. I know my family has for many generations.

Re: Start here! - My favourite practice!

I'm also into dancing to great music, but I'd rather being playing said music. :P

I am very much into playing and going into almost a trance like meditation as the music flows through myself and the others I play with. I've lost time in such experiences more often than I can put to words.

Namaste

Re: Start here! - My favourite practice!

I thought I would use this post to introduce myself to this community, as I think learning about one another's practice is a good way to learn about one another.

I have been practicing meditation since I was 17 and I am also a yoga teacher. So yoga and meditation are very important to me. Spirituality can be exhilarating at times, but a good physical yoga practice keeps me grounded. And meditation keeps me connected to the world beyond my little self so that I don't get all wrapped up in fears, doubts, obsessions, and other limiting things.

I also very much appreciate practices and rituals that get in touch with elemental forces and the power of nature to help guide us and heal. I did a little fire ceremony (Agni Hotra) in my yard last night. Shamanic practices help us tap into the power of nature to put us on the right path.

Which brings up an interesting point - have you observed how dynamic and ever-changing nature is? Just look out your window. So-called spiritual practices that become rigid, dogmatized and never-changing are the opposite of that. They restrict freedom, and to me, spirituality is about freedom, about breaking free of our self-created boundaries. We don't need systems or practices that add more boundaries for us.

I believe that traditional male-dominated religions and spiritual practices have sought to codify and rigidify (if that's a word) spirituality in order to maintain some sense of control...out of fear. The feminine aspect, I think, is more open and accepting of change, and senses the importance of allowing the dynamism of spirit to be as it is. We all need to bring together in our selves the masculine aspect of power and resolve with the dynamic feminine. I hope to explore and share ways to do this here!
