Obligatory prayer - Baha'i

In the Baha'i Faith we have what are called obligatory prayers and there is a choice of three: a short, medium or long prayer that is recited daily.

We perform abutions .. washing our hands and face before reciting the prayer and we face in the direction of Bahji which is the Qiblah or point of adoration. Bahji is near Haifa in the Holy Land..

All adult Baha'is are spiritually obligated to recite the obligatory prayer daily..however it is to be done in private not in congregation.

What I usually do is recite the long obligatory prayer which is found at

Bahá'í Reference Library - Bahá’í Prayers: A Selection of Prayers Revealed by Bahá’u’lláh, the Báb, and ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Pages 7-17 (http://reference.bahai.org/en/t/c/BP/bp-6.html)

Following the prayer I sit in a lotus posture and recite what for Baha'is is called the Greatest Name which in this case is Allah'u'Abha (God is Glorius) ninety five times. I use the digits of my hands like "prayer beads" to count the number.

At the end of the recitation my hands are in a mudra and I meditate quietly for some time.

This process helps me transcend daily problems and feel solidarity with every around the world who is reciting the prayer..

5am

A moment that can happen at any time.
when everything falls into place,
clarity is at it’s clearest,
Confusion transforms in to oneness
and when fate…
Welcomes you with open arms.
