Dowsing a Well

Living in a older home the water table has shifted and many newer homes have a better water source in their wells so we have been debating digging a new well and keeping the old one as backup. We've heard alot about dowsing the location for a well, but would we have to find a dowser separate from the well company? Will a well company work with our dowser?
