I am the only one in my circle of friends and family that seems to have any concern for the environment and our impact upon it. I get ridiculed over some of the things that I do to try to reduce my family's environmental impact. I have tried to educate some of them but they seem to be close minded on the subject. I am regarded as somewhat of a hippie within the family.
Yeah, i know what you mean. i also feel alone in this. i have issues every time i say to my mom that i don't eat meat anymore, even though the decision was made some time ago. she keeps asking whether or not i've come back to my senses. she thinks veganism or environmental activities such as gathering polluting agents in rivers or something is humiliating, because it means picking other people's trash. she thinks this extremist type of environmentalism is only for eccentrics.
Oh boy, I feel like a Martian sometimes. Some people look at me like I am weird because I like to eat healthy food, not drink from plastic bottles. bring my shopping bag etc; my close friends and family accept my "weirdness" as long as it does not require them to change. But really, after over 10 years of me acting consciously, I see some changes in my them, like a little light started shining and it's growing (I am hopeful).
I am not completely alone in this, if only because my family is now involved in what I do. I have two friends too, who share my feelings. But there are not many around me who are much involved with the planet.
No I am not alone in this because I am connected in intent to everyone else on the planet who feels the same respect and level of caring that I do. There are plenty of people who know what mother Earth needs.

I do not feel alone, both because I see plenty of others with bags of bags at the grocery store and refilling their drinking bottle from the water fountain and I know there are many others out there I cannot see.
