Bad dreams involving your children

I had a horrible dream this morning. I dreamt I was at my mom's house, on the 3rd floor deck they have, with my two children. My older child went to the railing, but there was a gap between the floor of the deck and the railing and she slipped through. She held on to the bars for a moment, and then fell just as I got to her. All the way to the ground, about 30 feet. I was running down the stairs to her, hearing her cry when I woke up. I was so shaken.

I haven't been able to shake the dream all day. I think it was just a nightmare coupled with reading a fantasy book in which the main character has premonition dreams that turn out badly for other people.

Re: Bad dreams involving your children

I think that many parents have nightmares that involve their children. I am not sure how much it has to do with anything other than our own feelings of inadequacy, and fears that we are not living up to the task of raising our children as they deserve.

I have also had bad dreams involving my children. I would have to agree that these dreams are interpretations of our feelings of inadequecies as parents. I have this constant fear when I am with one or both of my children in large crowds that I am going to lose one or both of them. Of course, these are the types of dreams that I wind up having!

I know what you mean I always have the fear of loosing my son in a large crowd. I have a rule I heard on tv once on tips of how to talk to your children about wondering off in places. "If you can't see me, I can't see you" I repeat it to my son and since it kind of rhymes he has memorized it and the minute he can't see me he shouts it so it makes me feel better knowing he's aware.

The problem is that if he can't see you then you have already been separated. This is a situation that drives me crazy with worry! We are supposed to be going to the summer jubilee tomorrow and I am so not ready for keeping a three year old near in a crowd!
