It's too late for tonight I'd guess-today is going to be a very long day. I have not slept tonight, though I went to bed twice and spent a total of two hours in bed.
I tried meditating and I tried praying. I just can't stop my brain re-running certain issues that I am dealing with right now, and it's robbing me of much needed sleep.
Stress is always a killer for getting proper sleep. I deal with it from time to time. Get up and read a book to try and drift off, anything to change the thoughts going over again in your mind, giving them a break and then get some zzz's.
I can understand that completely. I currently have alot of sickness of my close family members and haven't been sleeping well either. I have found myself lucky to get 3 hours of sleep a night on several occasions over the last few months. There are times I am very tired, but just cannot go to sleep. That's usually when I break out the Melatonin tablets and it does help me to drift off to sleep easier.

So sorry to hear of your distress. The not being able to sleep thing can be a real drag. Personally I think lauralane and 1wahmom have given you some very good advice. Along with the things they suggested, I also have been known to drink a nice hot cup of chamomile tea; it and a good book always help me relax. Like 1wahmom sugguested, the melatonin usually works well for a sleep aid, but I try not to use it too much simply because if a person uses it to a very large extent, it can cause the body to stop producing it on its own; and that can't be a good thing. I personally use valerian root instead most of the time. I would caution you that if you have any medical problems, especially if they require you to take prescription drugs, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any herbs or supplements for negative interactions, just to be on the safe side.
I have also found meditation while laying in a prone position sometimes will lead one to fall off into peaceful sleep. IF...at all possible for you, if you know someone, or live in an area where there is an energy practioner you can go to, a lot of times having your aura cleansed and a session of energy work done does wonders for the body, mind and spirit, and goes a long ways in helping to cope with everyday stresses. IF nothing else, just a good massage can make a world of difference. Put on some nice "New Age" music, grab a cup of tea and a good book and drift away.

I would suggest allowing yourself to face the re-running issues head on. Try looking at them as if you are a third party who is observing. Don't judge, don't even try to figure out what to do next (that will come to you in its time), just acknowledge them and then just let them go. It's not the issues themselves that keep you up but rather the attachments to them in your mind. Trust me, it works!
The immediate issues have now passed-I had a court appearance coming up that has now gone by with success. Now I just have to pay the family court lawyer for his services.
Many of the things mentioned here I have tried already, to varying degrees of success. Valarian, though I find it calming, has just never worked for sleep for me. I has stopped me wanting to eat co-workers alive though
Hi ShortOfTime, Losing sleep, not resting - sometimes happens for me. I begin with the old stand by of progressive relaxation focusing on my toes, feet, legs, etc telling them to relax - belly breathing as i do this and getting real focused - feeling the bed clothes, the air on my skin, etc. If that doesn't do it I call to my I AM prescence and ask for intervention and repeat something like I Am sleeping peacefully - another is to sit up and force yawns and suddnely you finds your self yawning and more relaxed. If none of this works - i read and try not to get alarmed about how soon i need to get up. My sister told me about Melatonin - that helps her - also Bach Rescue Remedy. I hope you find something.

WORK WITH this space,because it's a great permission for you to have a place to sleep and create a "new ambient", always you need,don't think, just do it.
